I agree about No Surrender - I'm not much of a fan of Alan Bleasdale but I liked the film a lot, especially Elvis Costello as the hapless magician.
Letter To Brezhnev also springs to mind as a good Liverpudlian film. My only proper visit to Liverpool was quite surreal - spending New Year's eve at a Catholic social club with my then girlfriend's family and meeting an endless array of cousins who all seemed to be called Gerard, then playing bingo - a new and rather scary experience for me. I also had my first experience of being offered knocked-off cold meat in a pub. A rather shifty character was doing the rounds and opening his jacket to reveal, not watches or cigarettes but packets of ham. Crayzeeeee..... |
