"Get yer bra on love, yer nicked!" If she hadn't been killed off, I'm sure the guv and George would be making gravy with her. Talking of which, I must remember to add an Oxo Cube to the chicken. But to the serious point of new movie, this is certainly news to me and hasn't been mentioned at the main Sweeney forum
http://www.missingimages.com/thesweeney/ I reckon it would have to be set in the seventies and before the Police and Criminal Evidence Act. Before the Act there was no need for solictors or tape recorders in those days!! If a villian got out of order back then or got a bit lippy, then he would be taken round the back for a good hiding!! Setting it in the modern day just wouldn't work. But this is all just conjecture as I've heard nothing.... |

Steady on now Jim! Surely you're not thinking of...well...you know what....and with a corpse!!!!Oh dear, oh dear oh dear. The strange thing is that Linda Bellingham nearly did die in the filming of that scene as the actress herself testifies in one of the extras in the DVD Sweeney boxset. By the way, anyone who hasn't got this should do the guvnor proud and buy it as it's all been digitally restored. Forget the crappy Men & Motors reshowing of the Sweeney as it's been cut to buggery. In that scene Linda said that they were going to inject her with fluid and she was willing to go through with it. It turned out though, that with the appropriate camera angle, there was no need to inject her. She found out a few days later that if the injection had gone ahead, then it would have killed her. Needless to say, she wasn't happy. I bet the crew of the Sweeney didn't get any OXO cubes that day

Hmmm. I wonder what classic line of Regan dialogue the guvnor will come out with. I reckon it will probably be "Look slag, I don't give a toss who yer had in yer bed last night but don't run your numbers by on me!!!" Alternatively though he could use another line of classic Sweeney dialogue "Look love, you're a sexy sophisticated housewife and I'm a hard-working copper.... Ultimately he may chose to use the classic Carter line "Stick yer knickers on and make us a cup of tea, eh love?" I tried using that line on my own "bird" once. Bloody hell she went wild. Modern birds eh....

Just been searching for info on Imdb for one of the UK's best actors, Ray Winstone, and I find that there is pre-production talks of The Sweeney making a return in 2009. It seems that Ray might be asked to play Jack Regan. The info is very limited and there is no mention of other cast members. Trying to rack my brains as to who could play George Carter, but I have lost touch with whats happening back there in dear old Blighty and who the up and coming best actors are.
Ray is a brilliant actor and could fill John Thaws boots. John was Regan through and through. Can Ray do it? I would love to think so. It's a hard act to follow. On imdb one guy is thinking of Dennis Waterman to play Regan, no chance mate. Someone else suggests Regan - Ray Winstone, agree. Carter - Philip Glenister? Don't know anything about him. Haskins - Christopher Ellison? He is best known for his role as Detective Chief Inspector Frank Burnside in the The Bill and Burnside. Maybe he could be Regan's dad? Joke! An excellent choice Let's hope whatever is chosen, it's the best! Long may The Sweeney remain an icon in British television history. Roll on 2009! ___________________ Hooked off the line |

Sorry, but I think this a terrible idea. The Sweeney is an iconic programme from the 70s and should stay that way. To update it would be to lose everything that made the series so popular, you just couldn't get away with those characters in a 21st century setting. On the other hand if you set it in period you wouldn't be able to put the right language and attitudes of the time on screen. Life on Mars succeeded because Sam Tyler acted as it's 21st century conscience. With regard to casting, John Thaw's performance was a lot more subtle than people often realise. That's one of the things that made Reagan such a great character, the different shadings given to him by Thaw. Ray Winstone, great actor that he is, doesn't do subtle very well. IMHO if this project does see the light of day it will be a disaster.
