Don't remember that one! I do remember Roger Moore as Simon Templar getting embroiled in a murder mystery involving Nessie, quite a good episode as I remember, one of the later series in colour I think.

That episode was called 'The Convenient Monster' and featured in series 5 (1966/67).

And it had Mr MacKay in it, before he started doing Porridge.

That movie just doesn't deliver enough monster! And I always somewhat resent those movies where the monster turns out to be fake (although THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES is a favourite movie of mine). Don't filmmakers realise that the audience for Loch Ness Monster movies is primarily a kids audience, and what kids want is REAL monsters, and onscreen A LOT. I mean, that's what *I* want, and I'm 40!

The Secret of Loch Ness (1933) contains a fair amount of 'real' monster action. It may not have the highest production values, but it's great fun!

I'm sure Bats means "The Secret of the Loch" - if I'm right, that film also has the bonus of a very young Rosamund John in her first screen appearance (as Maggie). Truth to tell, she's not awfully good, but she went on to become just wonderful!

I'm not sure that I entirely agree with you here Mr Cairns. So many films seem to deliver too much monster! Isn't our greatest fear that of the unknown? That's why we're scared of the dark, and why we draw our curtains at night (so that we cannot be seen by someone - or something - that we cannot see ourselves). Films that focus on this fear of the unknown by building atmosphere are so much more creepy; for example, The Descent was really quite scary until we actually saw the creatures, and then it became rather silly. And so it is with the various films about Loch Ness; we can be scared until we realise that the monster is only plastic and special effects after all.

That's one of the various reasons why the first Alien movie was the scariest
