The ODNB has published its list of biographies (217) of people who died in 2008 here.

Access to the biographies through most public libraries and subscribing institutions.

Too many names of interest to Britmoviers to mention. I would be interested in opinions on the entries as short biographies, apart from the individual subjects.

I wish there were even limited access for anyone living outside the UK. The ODNB used to give free access to one biography every day. That was a perk.

There's nothing stopping you getting access...if you pay. It's not a cheap resource to produce and Brits pay for it through their taxes (via their libraries). The American Dictionary of National Biography is just as hard for us to get hold of Can't you subscribe to the daily email?

Of course, the other way you could access it, is just to join a library next time you are in Britain. But I assume you've thought of that...
