it is a top film, no doubt about it. in fact I got this as a birthday present recently!!
I just watched the above film yet again, and it cheered me up immensely, to chase away the January blues!
As many forum member's will know, this masterpiece was superb in it's superior comic timing and editing.
Ms Rutherford as 'Miss Whitchurch' practically stole every scene.
Especially amusing for me there is a scene between 'Miss Jezzard' (Muriel Aked) another school-mistress-where she takes a phone call from the 'Ministry' clearly irritated-Miss Whitchurch in front of listening visiting parent Mother's says: "Tell them we'll phone them later!" Miss Jezzard's "posh" telephone accent is priceless!
Interrupted by the phone, Ms Whitchurch: "Now where was I?" Parent: "Up the tree!". The look that Ms Whitchurch telegraphed to the bumbling Ms Jezzard had me dissolved in laughter.
Superb dialogue all the way through the film-good clean fun-hilarious outstanding piece of work.

Super film; I hear the DVD print isn't all that great? as opposed to the Channel 4 screening..
Can(and have) watched this film over and over again. Will never tire of watching it as all the actors are good. Margaret Rutherford and Alastair Sim what a peerless combination. Not to mention Joyce Grenfell,Richard Wattis et al.Sadly an era of British Films never to be repeated.
Such a fun film. Sim and Rutherford are hilarious and with faces like Wattis and Grenfell in the cast, well, what more could you want? My favourite scene is Ms Rutherford's headmistress trying to explain away the male teacher's pin-ups to quizzical parents of her prospective young ladies. That rumpled face on which you can read every thought. It's perfect, really.
Personally, I always thought the interaction between Margaret Rutherford's chins and "Digestive" (biscuits) to be the highlight!
