Default Mysterious island

In 1961 Columbia pictures released, this film. Joan Greenwood,Herbert Lom,and several American actors were in it. A wonderful Bernard Hermann music score complimented the film. Hallmark entertainment has released a made for video/tv 3 hour, film. This film is too long, sub standard special effects, and a waste of time. A complete boring film,do not waste your time on this one.

Amazon are doing the original 1961 - complete in widescreen - for only £3.97 at the moment. I got mine years ago and watch it regularly - terrific adventure film!

Yes, the original & best 1961 version (there have been 2 remakes - both awful), thrilled me as a kid - watched it last year and still found it a treat. Had similar fond memories of The Time Travellers '64, but on recent viewing found it a cheap bore.

It's a curious mix of talents that movie - Harryhausen, Greenwood, Lom, Endfield etc for a medium budget britflick of its era. In its own way it works very well.

I really love the beginning with the balloon escape. With some Harryhausen films I would feel impatient for the monsters to show up, but this one hits the ground running so hard I forget my craving for giant bees!

When I first watched this as a kid, I had know idea it was going to be anything other than a movie about the ACW, which to me in those days was still a western.

Next thing I knew there were giant crabs and all sorts, excellent film.
