Albeit not a British film, not filmed in Britain, but a wealth of a British cast. Beautifully filmed,a touching love story,a magnificent score,it is one of my favourite films about the legend of Sherwood Forest. Not without humour,it also shows that Robin was not without his faults and that the Sheriff of Nottingham had some grudging respect for his adversary. I liked the small sequence of Robin helping the Sheriff stand up before they started their duel.
However, did anyone notice that apart from Sean Connery -whose Scots accents is always part of the package - Little John,Will Scarlett and Friar Tuck had Scottish accents?

Indeed I did - I even raised it on a thread years ago.

I guess it was a way of indicating the difference between the Normans and the Saxons, the them and us. Giving the Merry Men the same accent as Robin makes sense
    - and they weren't going to get Sean to do any other type of accent were they?

This worked a lot better than whatever Russell Crowe was speaking in the more recent debacle.

I haven't seen that one yet. A good point you made there though about the accents.
I liked the quirky little humour in the film, such as the two bucketheads at the start of the film, raising the rock from the ground and one of them whimpering about the damage on his fingers;the scene with Robin and Little John trying to escape and Bill Maynard walking into their cell, watching them and then saying:"The king is waiting for you",for the boys just to give up in their attempt!
