And quite wonderful it was. Up to Criterion's usual standard as regards the quality of the print and the soundtrack. Although I mainly watched it with the subtitles on to follow the dialogue (only a few mistakes in the subtitles) and listening to Charles Barr's commentary track.

He managed to point out a few things that even I hadn't noticed

A great interview with Chris Challis as well, talking about his experiences working with Powell & Pressburger on various films but mainly on this one

And today is David Farrar's centenary

Well just finished watching actually, Anne Heywood and Harry Andrews in " I Want What I Want " very early 70's sensalionist flick about a chap who wants to become a woman.

Anne Heywood is the msot unconvincing chap proably ever committed to celluloid ! and not one of Haryy Andrews better films.

Historically interesting for the attitudes on display but probably that is too high praise.

I'm looking forward to tonight's drama on BBC2, God on Trial, featuring the brilliant Antony Sher.

Just finished watching it. I'll gather my thoughts and post in the morning.

A stunning drama

Also gathering thoughts: not the sort of thing one can offer an instant response to, but it was riveting.

Agreed. I'm still mulling over parts of it. It was a lot to take in but I think it will remain fresh for many years to come

Right now I'm watching the original The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Michael Rennie sure makes a great looking alien. :)

Re: 'God On Trial'. Some superb solo and ensemble acting although Rupert Graves seemed out of his depth. Naturally this being a Beeb production there had to be an agendist political allusion: a quote from the OT (or was it the Torah?) which was something about the Jews finding a land and casting out the inhabitants, which Sher, as a Jews-for-Hamas member, must have relished. TBH, what appeared as a cheap bit of politicking marred what was -for me- otherwise a fine, licence-worthy production.

Great film!

I shall be watching The Vice courtesy of my new Network box set, which I got brand new and sealed off ebay for £8.49 inc postage.
