Just watched the Battle Of Britain with the music of Sir William Walton replacing Ron Goodwin's end theme. Very inspiring, but I am so used to RG's music. Must listen to it a bit more.

Just watched The Snow Goose again.

I find it and The Battle of Britain almost equally moving - the former showing man's humanity towards man and the latter showing man's courage in adversity.

All the best

Can't argue with that - it's IMHO the better version and one of the best Rattigan adaptations. Kent, Patrick and Redgrave give superlative quintessentially Rattigan performances.

I much enjoyed this recently, Michael Redgrave was superb in it, it would have been so easy to have gone over the edge with this but he played it beautifully.

I agree. Redgrave gave a tremendous, understated performance, ably seconded by the best of the Taplows, Brian Smith.

It will be The Midsummer Murders for me - great cast this time -

Donald Sinden and George Cole amongst others.

Whatever my reservations about the honours system I am always surprised Cole has not been recognised beyond an OBE after the remarkable and significant career he has had. Anyone else share that opinion ?

Very good point I could not agree more, but it seems a lot of "oldies" have been overlooked for some time now.

My only theory is that Alastair Sim was his mentor and Sim refused a Knighthood (while accepting a more minor honour). Cole was very heavily influenced by Sim and I wonder as to whether Cole has likewise actually turned one down. We will possibly never know the answer to that.
