Good observations. There was something rather "tokenistic" about it, I thought: as you point out, his trips to local producers seemed ill thought out and didn't follow through to the dishes he actually served (although he did sound annoyed about the French rabbits!).

I wanted to like it, because I like Marco (and his enthusiastic smoking), but I'm afraid this subject has been explored so much more effectively by the likes of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Richard Corrigan, The Great British Menu and even Janet Street-Porter's segment on The F Word.

Tonight I quite fancied "Mamma Mia" but, after discussion with "Chevy Management", we'll be watching an episode of A Touch Of Frost

Might catch Mamma Mia on ITV website

I think I notice this a little more because I am sensitive to MSG. I had never heard of it until about ten years ago - I went out for a chinese meal and felt really strange afterwards. The doctor said it was 'classic' MSG reaction..I then noticed that I had a raised heartbeat after eating sunday lunch (Bisto.) I found an interesting article explaining the background to it a little while ago and I suppose it really is up to people to decide for themselves.

Lupin - I think Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is very endearing and I like his thoughts..but I'm not keen on his recipes..they lack any finesse - and I like a bit of finesse! I think you can have both - common sense and something that looks good on a plate!

My favourite is Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) she is a great exponent of French cookery Chevyman.

Tonight I will watch Mike Caine in the Ipcress File. This is in my top 3 of spy movies. Deadly Affair and The Spy who came in from the Cold are the others.

I've never tried cooking from any of his recipes, but I'll take your word for it MB

Enjoyed reading that. Thank you. I've noticed, in recent years, how an increasing number of chinese restaurants offer MSG-free meals on request.
