hi all
does any one know this film it is on out . tv. tonight would it be worth watching
best mark.w.....

for thow . will be ours some day , we shall have it all

I like this film very much. Two top actors in Stanley Baker and Dirk Bogarde and good production values with fine location filming. I'd say give it a try.

A top film for me too. Another film that hasn't got a UK DVD release .... I had to get mine from Germany!

This strikes me as incredible!

Why on earth a German release rather than a UK release? I just cannot understand why so many UK films get foreign releases on dvd but not here. I can at least understand releases across the pond in the colonies because the language is similar and the market much larger.

I can certainly understand the appeal to German filmgoers, as they have a very long tradition of enjoying location-shot adventure films with mountainous locations.

Funnily enough, last time I was in Germany I picked up a Stanley Baker movie: The Last Days of Sodom and Gomorogh.

It's worth having a look at amazon.de. It's amazing what you can find on there and on e-bay. There are loads of Brit (and US) films that get legit releases in places like Holland, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Greece, but not the UK.

I forgot to ask, what's the German release like? I've got a nice DVD recording off the telly, so is this version worth tracking down?

It's full frame and doesn't look like it's been remastered. It's a good print (9/10) but if your TV print is good as well, I'd stick with that one.

Full-frame would be the original ratio. Wasn't sure whether you intended that point as a complaint!

1951??

Surely not, I am sure it was later, more like around 1958. It was on at the Odeon Tottenham Court Road, sadly long since gone. They also showed Carve Her Name With Pride, The 39 Steps and Richard III, all round about the same time. Great old Cinema, very fond memories.

Like the DVD of Hitchcock's Blackmail (1929) which is available from Amazon.de. It has both the sound and silent versions and a clip of Hitch giving Anny Ondra a sound test so you can understand why her voice was dubbed by Joan Barry for the sound version.

That's not available on the American DVD

It wasn't projected at 1.33:1 in 1958.
