Or even Mr Tony Hanc**k.

There's a lot of dignity in that, isn't there? Going out like a raspberry ripple.

No, we're allowed to be nice about him as he isn't one of Michael Powell's hated rivals. The rules are very complicated.

Many a good "Carry On" classic here, shame that they did not include "Carry On Teacher or Constable", especially "Constable" as it was shot around my old home town of West Ealing. I love "Screaming" and I personally think it's the best of all the Carry On's with Carry On Cabbie a very very close second.

What about David L**n, Powell and Pressburger -

Don't they deserve this treatment ?
Popular cinema deserves to be celebrated as well. Hammer and Carry on were two of this countries most profitable exports for many years (Hammer actually won the Queens award for industry one year).

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

I don't think any of us [well, not many] would dispute that. It would be nice if British film makers in general could be so celebrated.

All the best

Congratulations to the Carry ons which like it or not are undeniably a British institution. The same goes for Hammer Horror. IMHO both deserve to be recognised.....

Time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man...

Talking Stamps for Carry On and Hammer Films

Dear Friends

Please note that Royal Mail will issue six stamps commemorating Carry On and Hammer Films on 10 June. This marks the 50th birthday of Carry On and the 50th birthday of Hammer's Dracula. The specific movies honoured are: Carry On Sergeant, Carry On Cleo; Carry On Screaming and The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Dracula (1958) and The Mummy (1959). Very fine screen printing permits all text to be legible on the postage stamps! For a sneak preview go to www.royalmail.com/info. Alternatively visit www.royalmail.com/stamps from approx 7 June. Enjoy!

Philip
