Who wants to see 'It's Great to be Young' (John Mills as Mr Pringle, the teacher who lives for music) as a video or DVD?

A jazz loving music teacher battles with a stuffy headmaster. It's fun in an inoffensive middle class St Trinian's style.

Jeremy Spencer was the romantic lead, I remember, and Richard O'Sullivan was a very small boy who was amazingly gifted on the French horn. Their big finale was "L'Arlesienne" by Bizet. I loved this film; it was a sort of early Dead Poets' Society without the schtick.

This film was on not too long ago. I recorded it and have watched it several times.

As a lad of 14 or 15 I saw it many times as my mother worked at the local 'flea pit' called the Belgrave Cinema in Leicester, now a Sari shop! It must have been 1954/55. I think I knew the script word for word! I used to get in for nothing on the pretext of walking my mum home after the cinema closed for the night. I saw most of 'our' films in this way. Lucky eh?

Never saw 'Dead Poets' Society' though, I shall have to look out for it.

Kids don't wear proper school uniform these days do they? wink

Good morning boys.

Did you ever see such colourful school uniforms in real life? Mine was black. Other local colours were maroon, chocolate brown and royal blue. I saw it during the Summer holidays just prior to starting at grammar school - and I wondered what I was letting myself in for! (I also remember noticing that the school caps didn't feature a school badge.)

Does anyone know the correct aspect ratio of this movie. The IMDB doesn't say - and the recent airing on TV was in full-screen.

Oh, by the way, it's one of my favourite kid pictures - made just before rock'n'roll. A couple of years later, and the music class would have been playing rhythm & blues.

There's always play.com or Amazon; they sometimes surprise you! Beware of second handers though, I got caught with 'The 1st Men in the Moon' - lovely picture - rubbish sound; fortunately one of members came to my rescue. ;

Good morning boys.
