I haven't seen it, but I love Kay Walsh. She's wonderful in Hammer's The Witches (1966), a very underrated film, in my opinion.

Yes, This Happy Breed is such a fabulous film - I find the speeches pretty infuriating at times (such as the speech to the son on his wedding morning about not letting his wife find out if he ever has any indescretions)... but the acting of all involved lifts the film into something very special. Robert Newton and Celia Johnson are wonderful - and Stanley Holloway!

It'd be nice if Celia Johnson smiled occasionally
Then again, she doesn't have much to smile about

Hi,

My choice would be School For Scoundrels, it was made in the Summer of my birth and has some classic characters in it. TT and Ian Carmichael are superbly cast and the Winsome Welshmen.... Alastair Sim is always brilliant too!

Having said that, I recently took delivery of Went The Day Well, a good second choice.

Best wishes, Mark.

School for Scoundrels was my mother's favourite movie. The expression "Hard Cheese" was consequently enough to send her into paroxysms of laughter. The tennis scene is indeed perfect!

Robert Newton is fantastic in this, absolutely brilliant. I said it before and I will keep saying it, A Hopeless Drunk in real life makes this peformance as the respected sensible head of the family a real tour de force

Yes, Went the Day Well? was an Ealing production. They didn't only do comedies although those are the ones they're best known for.

Love this film, I believe it has also been performed as a play.
