I occasionally see Brian Pettifer out and about (I think he must live off in the area), and last year, in passing, thanked him for his excellent portrayal of David Hume in a BBC drama-doc on the Scottish Enlightenment. He was delighted, not least to know that someone had watched it! He seemed a nice man.

I was once a member of the Billingham Forum Theatre Club,in which you met members of the cast of a play after the show.
I have met Richard Todd,Irene Handl,Jimmy Edwards and Eric Sykes,Gerald Harper and some others. I will have to dig out the programmes.

T'is true. As mentioned already, he had two children with Sally although they never married. Now he is married to Laura Calland who is indeed the voice of 15-1 and they have two daughters together. I used to be a nanny for the two youngest on days when Laura was at the studio. A very nice, down to earth, pleasant family (and the best paid, easiest job I ever had - their youngest was a little angel)

Oh, and I used to take delivery of the questions sometimes when they were both at the studio...and I never peeked at the answers, promise!

Come along Horace, wave to the Turnips. You might get into Parliament...'

Was once invited to one of those 'do's at the Forum and met Barbara Windsor, nice lady - she bought my crowd a drink.

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

Jenny Hanley was really really nice when I met her - and although no one will remember Imogen Bickford-Smith- meeting her was one of the best things that ever happened to me - she was so sweet.

Working as a waitress in London in the Swinging Sixties, I met quite a few celebrities. I mentioned in another thread serving lunch to Margaret Rutherford, and at the same restaurant I served Ian Carmichel and June Thorburn. They and a couple of others came in a few times. June Thorburn was pregnant at that time and very soon after, the tragedy happened.

At another restaurant - Flanagans in Baker Street - Peter O'Toole and Sian Phillips came for lunch regularly on Saturdays with their little girl Kate; Edmund Purdom and Adrienne Corri came in once for dinner with several other people; and on one Saturday Mick Jagger came in for lunch with his girlfriend Chrissy Shrimpton, his brother Chris and a couple of others. Chris was wandering around either drunk or drugged and bent me backwards over the table, but I managed to avoid the intended kiss.

Prior to all that, my first job in London was as a telephonist at a big hotel. Whilst I was there, Dahlia Lavi was a guest, also Shirley Bassey. At the time SB was there she was having a romance with Peter Finch. One evening after my shift I was walking along Kensington High Street and saw a man approaching from the opposite direction. He was also alone and so I avoided looking at him. As we drew nearer, I could sense he was staring at me, and just as we were about to pass, curiosity got the better of me and I glanced up - right into the piercing eyes of Peter Finch.

I met a lot of well-known musicians - classical, jazz etc.

For several months I lived in Sydney Street, Chelsea, which runs between Kings Road and Fulham Road. My landlady was Osbert Lancaster's daughter. There was a fish and chip shop around the corner in Fulham Road and I frequently ran into Georgie Fame there, or passed him on the way, and we got to "hello-and-a-smile" terms. He was living in Fulham Road then.

I had a boyfriend who was a musician and through him I met Diz Dizley - such a nice man and a terrific guitarist. He always called me "long blonde Shirley"!

The story i heard was that Corbett told fans to **** off whilst Barker was happy to sign autographs
Also a local antique shop owner where Corbett lives claimed he had an arrogant "Do you know who i am?" attitude
Regarding a different celeb, Prince Charles ex -secetary Mark Bolland claimed Billy Connolly and Pam Stephenson to be "highly unpleasant"
Roger Daltry was described as so obnoxious on a flight that the attendant spat in his tea!

My father met Roger Daltry in court once. My father was a prison officer and Daltry was there as a character witness to a young offender; my father reckoned he was a really nice man.

Maybe he was just a nervous flyer?

I find it hard to believe that Daltrey would be drinking tea on a flight!

And yet I remember reading the exact opposite in the Observer Colour supplement once: how Corbett entered a restaurant for an interview "twinkling" and saying big hellos to the diners, whereas Barker "stormed in as though on his way to a dental appointment".

I was a contestant on a game show in the 80s where my celebrity partner was Adrienne Posta. How I managed to play, in the resultant galloping hormonal state, I can't imagine. Also present was Graham Chapman: extremely affable and ready to hold court when it was expected of him, even though he came across as painfully shy. The host was Barry Cryer - not just the nicest famous person I ever met, just about the nicest guy altogether.

. . . and new thumbscrews for me . . .

I once spent an evening with Barry Took, an absolute Gent. I have him on video making a joke about me. He was delighted that I held his Marty Feldman sketch(when he puts out the cat) in such great esteem.

Way back I became friendly with Dickie Henderson, we used to play tennis doubles together. What a super guy he was.
