The mighty Jarvis married a Franch lady and has lived over there for some time.

"gorgeous at the time". You say that as if you're not still gorgeous.
You seem gorgeous to us

Yes Jarvis is very down to earth, met him in late 80s.I think fame goes to the heads of some people, but others remain as they are.

Default England's greatest musician

Today I met Ray Davies of The Kinks.
What a sweet and generous man...
He gave our "Sound Opinions" program staff a great interview and played more songs for us than any music guest ever has.
What a dear human being.

(His interview will be archived on the "Sound Opinions" website above in a week or so.)

My Mum met him as well and they chatted for ages about Wales. She really liked him.

Maybe he is a nice man, or maybe he just likes older women

I always remember Patrick Mower - giving the wannabe soap stars some advice on that dreadful talent show (It came out not long after popstars when they were looking for a new family on Emmerdale) when one of them said, what advice can you give us about going on the show?

'well..' he said 'You have to be very very, very good' Stating the most obvious.

Yes, I thought, when I think of very, very very good actors, I always think of versatile actors with a CV like Patrick Mowers and the cast of soaps like Emmerdale. Cough Cough.

A few years ago i ran into Fenella Fielding in a bookshop in Belfast,(She was appearing in a play here). By chance i had just bought a camera that day and she obligingly agreed to a photograph. Very pleasant woman indeed.

Also in Belfast around 17 years ago i was walking down the street in which i lived and spotted a BBC van and cameras filming what proved to be location shots, sitting on a chair on the pavement was Warren Mitchell having a coffee.
I approached him to say hello and ask what he was being filmed in,he replied " No interviews today son". Ah well.
It was actually a dreadful BBC comedy series called 'You think you've got troubles'.

I met Gerald Thomas during the music recording of 'Carry On Columbus' he was a very charming English gent and very happy to talk about his life, hard to believe that such an English gent was responsible for directing the 'Carry On' films, sadly he died several months later

I used to work as an immigration officer at Heathrow in the 70s and 80s and the 2 nicest people I met were Raymond Burr and, funnily enough, Cher. She was extremely pleasant and stopped to chat and sign a CD which I just happened to have!

Raymond Burr is a favourite mine so, as I am feeling a bit ropey today, that has cheered me up!

Jack 'Dixon' Warner says quite a lot about the niceness of Raymond Burr in his autobiography. Though he also says quite a lot about Burr's three wives and tragically dead child...

Who never existed ..... that has been well known for years. They were his 'beard' to help hide his homosexuality.

Burr was an incredibly generous man who donated millions to charity over the years.

Yes, I know. I just thought it was funny that people in the business believed in them. And there can't be many people with such elaborate beards (well, I guess there's Oscar Wilde with his real wife and two kids)

At the beginning of the decade I enjoyed a brief career as a London chauffeur and did a great deal of film and TV work.

Among many that I had the pleasure to drive around I particularly remember:

Helen Fraser. Very friendly and chatty. Preferred the front of the car. I was a fan from seeing her in Repulsion when it came out and it was her I felt sorry for (and fancied!) in that film.

James Bolam. Ferried him to a Christmas show he was doing with Victoria Wood. Exactly as he was in the super Beiderbecke shows.

Kenneth Griffith. Old and doddery by then but absolutely charming. Another front seat person who insisted on me going into his home for tea. Sadly missed.

Michael Barrymore. Always funny, charming and generous to a fault.
