![]() There are some famous people I've met where we were having such a nice friendly chat that it would have seemed crass to then ask for an autograph - so I didn't. Oh, and always ask before taking a photo. Give them a chance to prepare themselves. Then you usually finish up with a better photo - like my one of Leo Marks at Hereford ![]() I love that mischievous smile of his Steve |

I have met a fair few 'celebs' over the years. The ones who spring to mind as being particularly nice are ...
Oliver Reed, Michael Ripper, Patrick Mower, Dennis Waterman, Peter Cushing and Leslie Grantham. There have also been several who have stuck in my mind as being particularly obnoxious, but I shall keep those names to myself. Bats. |

I used to serve Francis de Wolffe in the village shop in Newick, Sussex in the early '70s; a lovely eccentric gentleman who liked a drink or four! He even brought his son and daughter in the shop to meet us - his daughter (17 then) was as tall as her Dad who was 6'+! He was known in the village as 'The Baron'.
I was a great fan of the series Justice with Margaret Lockwood & Philip Stone and I was late for work one morning in the City (London). I ran up some steps (I was younger, slimmer & fitter then), turned a corner to go between two buildings and went SMACK!...............into Philip Stone. I had to make a quick decision: do I stop and talk and be late for work or do I just apologise and try and get into work on time? As I was a Civil Servant - and, if anyone had seen me, I would have been disciplined for making myself late, I had to apologise and he was so nice - made sure I was OK, no need to apologise etc and I ran off and just made it in time! He played some quite 'oily' parts - especially one in A Touch Of Frost - but he was really lovely in real life. I always thought that he was a wonderful actor. I still regret that I didn't stop that morning. My son met Matthew Kelly and reckoned he was just one of the nicest people he had ever met - famous or not. And he must have been, otherwise my boy wouldn't have even bothered to mention he'd met him at all! All the other encounters were in my dreams...............and ongoing! ![]() YDSL x. |

I met Ed Bishop, a good few years back, in a terraced house opposite Manchester City's ground. He was charming. He jumped up off the sofa, said "Hi, I'm Ed Bishop!" and pumped my hand vigorously. I knew very well who he was ( a hero, as Commander Straker in UFO) and I was taken aback. I mumbled really stupidly, "Oh, er, yes...I've seen you in...um...things." What a prawn I was!

My most amazing 'meet' was John Barry, when walking past the Royal Albert Hall - this painfully shy genius was lovely; he took the time to chat for a couple of minutes even though I was obviously stunned and a little tongue-tied
