Unfortunately all the good films members like you menitoned are not available on DVD (at the moment). And because I can't receive english TV programmes it seems to me that I'll have to wait ages untill I can watch them.
Nevertheless a big THANKS YOU and don't stop naming titles.
Wilfried
Don't just limit yourself to films released on DVD Wilfried. There are many great films that have only ever been relased on video - and a lot that have never been released for home viewing in any format at all.

Hi Wilfried,
I am amazed that no-one has mentioned the "Mysteries of Edgar Wallace" or "Scales of Justice" series of 2nd features.

There were a few turkeys, but some real belters.

Granted, none of them are available on DVD, but you can find collectors to make DVD copies for you.

Check the link below for more info:-

They are all classic British Whodunnits set in the 50's/60's.

All filmed around London and the south of England.

Alistair Sim made several good mysteries in the '40s and '50s - 'Green for Danger' and 'An Inspector Calls' although the latter is more of a morality play than a crime film. In my experience, most of these films from the '40s and '50s are available on tape, but not DVD.

Thanks for the above you have made my weekend.
There was also another great series of films fronted by Edger Lustegarten (not sure of spelling) "SCOTLANDYARD MYSTERIES" which like the above had a lot of input by a young Ken Hughes.

Glad to have helped!
:)

For some obscure reason I forgot Scotland Yard and the fabulous Edgar Lustgarten.

Quite possibly because I never went mad over the Scotties. The Edgar Wallaces are fab and also the Scales of Justice (Lustgarten again ofcourse)

I feel that the "Scales of Justice" was a slicker "Mysteries of Edgar Wallace".

Some of Lustgarten's stories were used in the later Edgar Wallace's (the ones without the bust in the mist)

Another one I forgot was the output of Butcher's films, who made some low budget but pretty competant stuff, such as Smokescreen, Shadow of Fear, etc.

Another good website for this sort of stuff is below:-

"SCALES OF JUSTICE" god that title music by the Tornados. Who ever ordained that must have had Van Gogh's ear for music.

I take it this is your website? Is the claim of copyright clearance true?

As I have said before, AFAIK UK and European copyrights exist with CANAL PLUS ; I can only assume that Kroeger is US based and doing the usual 'public domain' thing based on their regulations.

I would assume any UK sales must be subject to UK copyright laws. Is anybody aware of cases where sales in relation to US public domain rules have been tested through the English courts ? Just curious.

Public domain doesn't come into it, if you're operating from the UK you are bound by our law. I have reservations as to whether they are PD in the US.

Having him post prices using Brit £ markings tells me "I accept British Currency, I accept British Laws".

I'm so against copyright laws burying art, but I'm also against illegal profiteering. My solution is that the rightsholders don't waste money suing these people - they spend their money delivering a much better product.

Then, if the consumer is willing to pay anything for a crap version, so be it. I don't know any collector who'd prefer crap versions of anything to waste his shelf space - sometimes we have to accept "the only version available" but I think the prevalent collector mentality is one of "getting the best version, not the worst one".

Verified, 47 Mysteries of Edgar Wallace, Scales of Justice and Scotland Yard are held by Canal+.
