.... ....... I walked straight into that one..........

Do you recognise this?

I recall Mr. McGoohan saying he had to play Charles Castle as 10 to 15 years older than he was at the time. This photo-still shows him (?) made-up accordingly. I certainly don't recognise it from anything else I've seen. It could be a Still from a theatre production of course, as the background is evidently painted.

All the best.

Just to add a quick note saying how much I like this film. It was one of the first Amicus (well - sort of) films I saw and helped make me a fan - leading to the eventual doctorate.

One of the chapters in my thesis included a section on the film - I think it was one of my more impenetrable sections!

Anyway, this is a cracking little film and well worth hunting out if you haven't seen it. There's a fine US DVD with several interviews and commentaries - and a good quality picture to boot.

City of the Dead is a tremendously atmospheric, foggy wonder.

You have to love any film with Christopher Lee and Valentine Dyall in it...

City of The Dead is available on both R1 and R2 DVD's. I have the Image R1 DVD which is very good quality.

Horror Hotel DVD's are to be generally avoided as (a) the quality is inferior as they are pseudo-bootleg "public domain" prints (this includes the R2 DVD) (b) the film is cut losing bits from 2 short sequences totalling nearly 2 minutes.

alongside as full a listing of Mr. McGoohan's TV work, as there is anywhere (I think) up until he started his second Danger Man stint. Go down the page aways. You may need to increase your text size if you want to read any of my jottings, but it won't make any difference to the image. I'm currently doing a lot of grammar/spell-checking as well as general "Heck.....does that even make sense?".... editing, so bear with any errors if you do read anything weird-looking.

A theatre buff guessed that my picture was a scene from "Private Lives" and that Patrick McGoohan had theatre grease-paint on, rather than 'heavy makeup'.

Lo and behold, I was able to confirm that he played Elyot Chase with the Midland Rep. in 1952, so we think that's where the photo comes from. A publicity shot for the repertory company.

The lady, we think, is Elvi Hale..... Anyone concur?

The other possibility is Rowena Ingram, but we couldn't find a picture of her for comparative purposes. They were the two principal ladies at the time.

Default City of the Dead

I watched "City of the Dead" for the first time last night, what a cracking horror movie, it made me jump a couple of times. It had everything, thunderstorms, fog creepy individuals, plenty of screams, the excellent Christopher Lee hamming it up and of all people the singer Dennis Lotis who wasnt bad at all. Got it at a bargain price as well. I do not normally enjoy horror movies but this was very entertaining.

Default City of the Dead

So I was enjoying City of the Dead (called Horror Hotel here in the USA) tonight - definitely one of the best horror films of the 1960's. Christopher Lee was awesome as usual. He sure is cute.

Default City Of The Dead (UK Cinema Quad Poster)

This has to be one of the most eyeatching posters ever! (If you can find one)
The artwork is out of this world.
I have 20 press stills from this film and boy are they good especially the close-ups of Patricia Jessell.
Best.
