I love all the Gainsborough Melodramas but if I had to pick a favourite one it would either be Fanny By Gaslight from 1944 starring Phyllis Calvert, James Mason, Stewart Granger, Jean Kent and Margaretta Scott. The other being The Wicked Lady from 1945 with the marvellous Margaret Lockwood, James Mason, Patricia Roc, Griffith Jones, Michael Rennie, Jean Kent and Felix Aymler.

The Man In Grey is a favourite of mine. What a cast! Lockwood, Mason, Calvert, Granger. Escapist melodrama at it's finest.

Bats.

Don't miss out on a chance to win a rare film in Bat-Quiz 13 closing date - 31/8/8.

I like 'em all but the opening 10-15 minutes of Jassy where Dennis Price louchely gambles away the family estate is a particular favourite...

Yes! They're all great fun! But I have a particular fondness for the Margaret Lockwood ones.

Hugely popular in their day and there are so many to choose from. Brilliant actresses Margaret Lockwood, Phyllis Calvert, Patricia Roc, Jean Kent, Googie Withers, Sally Gray, Anne Crawford etc and the actors too James Mason, Stewart Granger, Michael Rennie, John McCallum, Dennis Price and many of their films had great supporting character actors too.
