I'd love to know how to use a film clip as an Avatar.
I made this animated gif from a DVD... http://www.filmtvextra.co.uk/picts/f..._evil-clip.gif (That's forum member Aitch in Dr Who) But it's far too big to use as an Avatar and if I make it small enough, the quality is terrible. Any ideas? Trevor |

Throw away your freebies, The Wicker Man is coming to 3-disc special edition in September, only here in the UK. The set includes the home video debut of the 50 minute documentary 'Burnt Offering' plus a CD of the original soundtrack. However, it may not include the Christopher Lee interview and audio commentary recording clip of the WB 2-discer.
More details and cover-art at Mondo Esoterica - new and coming soon... |

I've just been taking a look at the new 3 disc set. Sadly no new prints, but an interesting new documentary and audio soundtrack CD make this new release a tempting upgrade. The Wicker Man: Director's Cut (1973) - DVD review at Mondo Esoterica |

We saw the new Nicolas Cage WICKER MAN Sunday afternoon and "yeah, OK, fine, whatever" is the best we can say.
We saw the original last week on DVD, and spent a couple of days talking about it. Here it is, after two coffee sessions and morning newspaper foldings, and since we drove out of the theatre's parking lot, not a word about the film. It was OK. But obviously it hasn't sparked our conversational interests like the original one did. |

For me, it's a combination of things. Firstly, the soundtrack is superb, drawing on some ancient songs and verses (notably, R Burns) and reworking them. Then, the locations are excellent, and very well thought out. Then, there is a thread of pagan tradition/mythological activity throughout the film. (corn dollies, alfresco sex, costume, dance, standing stones, etc) And of course the performances of Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward are both excellent. And the wicker man itself, is an impressive spectacle. I suppose these things either appeal, or they don't!

It'd be interesting to hear from a Viewer who sees this new one first, and then the original.
I'm trying to find someone willing to watch my copy of the original but, so far, everyone who's seen the new one isn't all that keen about seeing "the original". This says something in itself! |

Hi
We watched the directors cut over the weekend and it was a joy. This new remake is a disaster! The orig vers was reconstructed from a 1" vintage video and a 35mm print. I kinda like both long and short versions, mainly as it shows how much better the long version was. Studios run the show and the Director, cast & crew suffer the art..... |
