Red face Night Must Fall

Caught the last 40 mins of this on TCM Euro the other night. It stars Albert Finney as a psycho killer who moves in with a mother & daughter (Susan Hampshire) who live in a large country house.

It seemed rather a similar set up to the 'Night Digger' that was on a couple of weeks back and also got a bit of a thread somewhere else here.

I wanted to read a synopsis on the A-Z but the film is not on the list. Did anybody else catch this? How did he get to join the family? What kind of accent was that? It seemed to be Cardiff via Dahab and Moss side.
I though it was quite a decent last 40. I will have to keep an eye out for it over the next few weeks.
The Euro EPG just lists everything as 'film' < yes, I know it's a film, but who's in it, when & where was it mdae, and what's it about ff sake! Thank you

Classic piece based on an Emlyn Williams play. I think Bryan Forbes directed it.
Tour de force performance from Finney IMHO.

Karel Reisz directed it and it is one of those long-forgotten films that bombed when it was first released. I have never seen it as it never seems to turn up on terrestrial TV but will look out for it, but I can well believe that it has been underrated. The Robert Montgomery version is the one that is most remembered now. The play itself still gets revived today - Jason Donovan in the west-end (bombed).

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !

It's very enjoyable, maybe falls apart towards the end. They've jettisoned most of the story and that gets them into a bit of trouble. I like both the Montgomery and Finney versions, both have tour-de-force performances from the lead psycho and the old lady. Rosalind Russell has the edge over whatsername though.
Finney has a scene with a hatbox which MAY contain a severed head which is an absolute MASTERCLASS in weird acting.
