They managed to get empty streets in London for 28 days Later (2002).

For An American Werewolf in london (1981), the scene when the werewolf runs riot in Piccadilly Circus was filmed at that busy intersection when police stopped the normal traffic and the public. Everyone took their places, it was filmed with multiple cameras and it was all cleaned up within the half hour. It was the first time in many years that filming had been allowed in Piccadilly Circus, due to lingering resentment over an unannounced smoke bomb which director Michael Winner set off while filming a scene for The Jokers (1967) , after which he sped off in a taxi with the film magazine while other members of the crew was arrested; however, John Landis' cordial experience in working with the Chicago police on The Blues Brothers (1980) helped overcome official reluctance to approve the filming, especially as he had completely worked out a plan, using a scale model of the area, whereby traffic would be minimally disrupted.

That's a strange use of the word "improvement"

Landis also re created a small section of Piccadilly Circus including the porno cinema kiosk, for some of the tighter shots and inserts of cars crashing back at the studio and used the age old technique of using "real"on location establishing and wide shots intercut with studio shots, its all very well done on 'American Werewolf' it definitley looks like 100% of the real location.

There is a sign near me which says DANGER: HIDDEN DIPS IN ROAD AHEAD but I have not yet seen anyone crash into a tub of guacamole.

Am I right in thinking that a remake of SOME LIKE IT HOT was mooted - at least 15 or 20 years ago - with Rod Stewart and Elton John in the Curtis/Lemmon roles? Frightening.

No remakes of most Gainsborough melodramas - in fact all bar The Wicked Lady?

The Card (1952) could be remade and might work well...

If we are adding humour to this thread then what about a re-make of a lesser known
Detective?
The Barrett Holmes of Wimpole Street

Do you mean the Russ Abbot version? That was great. Along with the original C.U. Jimmy, Basildon Bond and Cooperman

Honestly, I do not remember any of those so it must be Great Minds Think Alike
