Default Re-makes never Remade!

How about this idea for a new thread?
I was thinking about re-makes of older films and then thought; what about the films
that could have been and were not?
One particular great film comes to mind in 'Rebecca'

This could have been re-made in say, 1952, in colour with the following cast (Granger and Simmons comes to mind with Footsteps in the Fog)

de Winter - Stuart Granger
The new wife (unnamed in the film) Jean Simmons (looked great and could play this part really well)
Favell - Julian Glover (first class cad)
Mrs. Danvers - Kay Walsh (a marvelous character actress)

A remake of 'Rebecca' surely has to start with the line
"Last night I dreamed I went to Manderlay again, again"

An updated remake of I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING with bumbling aristo Hugh Grant (as Roger Livesey) and feisty feminist New Yorker Julia Roberts (as Wendy Hiller) might work.....

Don't suggest such a thing, even in fun! <shudder>
A few people have thought about remakes of P&P films but luckily they have (so far) been talked out of it

john audley's idea was for films that could have been made but were not. Therefore we have missed the opportunity of seeing Carry On Up the Arsenic and Old Lace with Kenneth Williams and Charles Hawtrey as the homicidal sisters.

Start every day with a smile and get it over with.

I always thought Day of the Triffids was worth remaking.

Definitely 'off the wall' But I like the idea. Mind you, surely Hollywood has been doing this for years! Cameron's Titanic had at least four films within the script

There is no way you would ever be able to remake "The Day of the Triffids". For a start, London's streets are never that empty nowadays and I'm sure someone from Health and Safety would ban triffids, because of their danger to the rest of society. Not forgetting that someone, somewhere, would be bound to accuse the sailor of having an under-age affair with the little girl he meets at the station. You also wouldn't be able to portray blind people (howsoever caused) as being in any way inferior, because you would be breaching at least one of their Human Rights and be accused of being "blindist".

Furthermore, the scene where the "hero" sets light to the triffids, by using the flame-thrower, couldn't be staged, firstly because of the global warming threat and also because some tin-pot politician would probably declare the area a "low emissions" zone.

As for the eventual destruction of the plants, I'm sure Health and Safety would declare that the use of seawater would be unsafe and the person holding the hosepipe would have to do a risk assessment, before aiming and opening the valve, by which time he would have been gobbled up by the aforementioned carnivorous plant!

Are we certain we're even allowed to watch such films, in case they incite us to carry out such dangerous behaviour?

Perhaps they should be re-making "The Galloping Gourmet" or "Playschool"; they're about the only things we could watch, without upsetting someone! (or could we?)

I once saw a "modified" road sign, saying "Danger: Heavy Plant Crossing" and, underneath had been scratched "Triffids". I wish they'd make it into a real sign!
