Default British film museum

I'm sorry if I'm ignorant but is there such a thing?

Didn't the Museum of the Moving Image close down last year?

Also, plans for the BFI film centre.

There was MoMI (Museum of the Moving Image) which was a bit of fun for a while. But that's been closed down.

I made a suggestion a few years through one of the national papers about converting one of our major studios into a museum and a bit of a theme park. I think it was Elstree, which at the time was lying dormant.
I believe all our studios are doing well - I stand to be corrected on that one - but in the event that any is going to mothballed or worse still closed, why not make it into a museum as a celebration of British film. There could be James Bond themes,Star Wars and Indiana Jones et al.
On the whole,it would be nice to have something dedicated to British film.

The National Museum of Photography, Film and Television is located at Bradford in West Yorkshire. Although a majority of the galleries are devoted to photography and television, there are film related exhibits and it contains three cinemas including one Imax auditorium. Well worth a visit.

Default British Film Museum (Student project help needed!)

Hi everyone i'm in my last year studing graphic design at University College Falmouth. For my last project i want to create/design a British Film Museum. This sums up what i plan to do:

I plan to design a place where you go to experience the best in British film (Mix old and new together). There will be two temporary exhibitions that celebrate a certain actor or genre etc. To link with these, there will be two cinema screens showing films that correspond with each exhibition. There will also be a permanent feature that will give an overview of British cinema. This could be an imax cinema which will give you an interactive experience (or something).

The ideas i have now for exhibitions are Michael Caine, Danny Boyle, Carry on series, Peter Sellers and Terry Gilliam (have to choose 2) Good or bad choices? please let me know!

If you have any ideas or thoughts on what you would want to see there like the exhibitions or the permanent feature, or anything that springs to mind!

Cheers

I don't understand. How can you experience the best in British film if you include new films?

OK, there have maybe been one or two reasonable films made in the lst few decades.

Welcome to the forum.

For your permanent feature, would they just be clips to give a flavour of British films through the ages? In that case I think you should start with some British silents, move on through the Ealing comedies, Gainsborough melodramas and Hammer horror, dipping in to various other genres as well.

For one of your temporary features, I may be a bit biased but I would suggest Powell & Pressburger films. As well as having the quality to show the best of British, they also cover an amazing range of topics and styles.

I'd love to see a museum or film college offer a prolonged study of a studio's output and its changes over time. An Ealing month(s) - all of them. Rotate them in and out as Year Of The Studio or something.

For my two penneth...

I would put up Launder & Gilliat against Steve's Powell & Pressburger....

There's no need to kneel, I'm a very democratic sort of lord.

Fortunately, a film museum won't have its schedule set in concrete. The sun also rises, so they'll be able to rotate or add viewings. That's what makes return visits more inviting.
