Default Old Brit horrors

Many of these films are available on DVD although The Skull and Tales That Witness Madness are notable exceptions.

Torture Garden was released on R1 and R2 DVD about a year ago. The Uncanny was released several years ago in a Carlton Box Set with Hands of the Ripper and The Monster (I Don't Want to be Born). You can buy these off Amazon.

Doomwatch (1972) is on BBC this Friday.

The Skull turned up at least once on Yorkshire TV in the late 80s/early 90s, and I still have my VHS recording smewhere. Dreadful, blurry pan and scan copy it was, too.

'The Stranglers Of Bombay' probably the one film that ever managed to scare the wits out of me and result in nightmares. I was only about 10 the last time I saw it though!

It did appear (albeit briefly) on VHS in the mid to late 90s...

I agree with Tod .Iwould dearly like to see "THE SHUTTERED ROOM " again .I have always loved Lovecraft but rarely liked anything of his that were turned into movies TSR being the exception Oliver Reed was great .

Makes one wonder what type of persons are in charge of TV programming schedules these days. I'll bet nine-tenths of them have not heard of nine-tenths of the films we have mentioned.

Every channel which shows films should have a person who knows the current trends and fashions etc. and an older person working alongside to re-show "forgotten" films. Just an idea which came to my head...

--
Another thought - British TV could show a lot more Euro-Horrors as well. I'm not too "up" on this thing, but HAVE heard of Argento, Bava.... well, that's about it... can't think of any more. I've left out Jess Franco because everything I've seen of his has either been poor or eccentically viewable in a laughable sort of way.

Some of Franco's earlier work is pretty good, such as The Awful Dr Orloff (1962). I can even out up with Vampiros Lesbos from 1971 (the soundtrack CD is terrific)

It would be nice if some of Paul Naschy's Spanish horror films were to turn up .... they may be crap, but they are great fun!

This still is from Night of the Werewolf.

Default nights of werewolf

You can buy Nights of the Werewolf on a R1 DVD if you have a multi-region player.

Well you can buy it even if you don't have a multi-region player.
But if you're not in region 1 (North America) then you won't be able to play it

While not a horror film as such, but certainly qualifying as dark suspense is 'And Soon the Darkness' (1970).

I imagine this has been shown on Sky, but cannot remember a "main channel" showing in many years. I can't put my finger on why I like this film so much, but I do. Hitchcock rated it highly I think.

Back in the 70s, this was a film which would have been shown on BBC1 at 9.25pm.

This may not be considered a horror film (more of a Hitchcock-type thriller) but I havent seen "Deadly Strangers" on TV for god knows how long....just bought a DVD copy of it on Ebay though so I might as well stop moaning

This used to turn up regularly on BBC in late night slots, so I always fell asleep and missed the ending, but it was pretty clear who the murderer was by about the three quarters mark... Until I finally got to see the whole thing a couple of years ago, and I was completely wrong!

A really excellent piece of work and probably my favourite film from the Brian Clemens/Albert Fennell team.

It's being released this summer in a box set along with The Pirates of Blood River, The Devil Ship Pirates and The Terror of the Tongs.
