Spikes that spring out and stick through your eyes!
And that was just one of the many gruesome deaths in it.

Peeping Tom stands supreme, but it's so much more than a British horror.
Peeping Tom is good, although it's in the 'horror' catagory but I didn't find it much of a Horror... it's more of a story about a serial killer who is suffering from damage caused during his child hood.
Creepy in places

I wouldn't really put it in the 'horror' category (although many do). In the documentary A Very British Psycho (1997), Alexander Walker tried to justify his initial review of it (although his was one of the milder reviews) and even called it a "snuff film"!

But there's no real horror and certainly no gore. We never see any of the killings on screen. The only death we see is that of Mark himself, and even that isn't overly bloody or even convincing with him holding the blade by the side of his throat.

I'd put it more in the category of 'psychological thriller' if it had to be categorised.

Would anyone recommend to me their favourites to look for?
What's creep like?
That's a recent Brittish Horror.
Half of the people who have seen it said it was aweful... the other half say it's okay..I heard it pretty chilling..

Craze (1973) is a notable horror movie about an antique dealer dealing with black magic and making sacrifices to an African idol. To those who enjoy British B-movies I highly recommend it.

I wouldn't put in the horror category either. I would label it a "psychodrama thriller". Its ending, when the hero kills himself with the camera he used to slay his female victims, is memorable and sensational, perhaps the movie's highlight.

Question Best British Horror film

A fairly simple question - what's your favourite British horror film?

I'm thinking there'll be some call backs to the days of Hammer. The last vaguely decent Brit horror I saw was The Descent and that was some time ago...

I have to say the Haunted what a great film this was. All the hammers are really great too.

I'm rather fond of 'Peeping Tom' myself.

I actually can't think of any good recent British horror movies, though I've heard some good things about 'The Descent' (which I haven't seen).

The Descent is actually quite good. First of all, there are no men charging in to save the day - it's focused on the group surviving for themselves. It's incredibly dark and doesn't play it for laughs, which occasionally ruins a good horror for me.

If nothing else, one of the characters climbing up a hill of bones, emerging from a lake of blood, is a visually stunning scene.

Not technically a horror but Threads has to be the scariest and most disturbing British film I've ever seen. Very uncomfortable viewing.

Do you mean the nuclear holocaust film made for tv in the 1980s (was it the BBC or Channel 4? I can never remember)?
