Default Favourite Comedy Film

What's the forums favourite British comedy film?
I ask members this as I've just watched "Holiday on the Buses" and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Oh dear.

I like the darker comedies like The Ladykiilers, Will Hay's Oh Mr. Porter! or one of Alastair Sim's films; maybe School for Scoundrels or The Green Man. One of the Boulting films would also be included' probably I'm Alright Jack.

Of the colour films; The Life of Brian and Fish called Wanda.

Well... any Ealing comedy gets my vote, then 'What A Carve Up,' with Sid James and Kenneth Connor,in which Ken Connors expertise at comedy is obvious, 'Privates Progress,'But The Ladykillers is top of my list by a long chalk.

"How about dat, a? How about dat?

Too many I'm afraid.

At the moment my top six would be:

The Rebel
School For Scoundrals
The Happiest Days Of Your Life
Bedazzled
Only Two Can Play
The Battle Of The Sexes

but this list doesn't include any Ealing, 'Carry On's', 'Doctor', 'St Trinians' and 'Monty Python movies.

There is just too many movies to chose from (comedy, like horror is a genre which we excell)and it's a genre I love too much *just* to name a couple of favourites. :)

So hard to choose.
Of the Ealing comedies Ilike Hue & Cry and Passport to Pimlico most of all.
However when I think of the films that consistantly provide me with belly laughs viewing after viewing I have to go for the Norman Wisdom films. In paricular 'Trouble in Store,' 'Follow a Star,' and 'The Square Peg.'

Man in the White Suit.

Capitalism at its most sinister. It has many laughs but it has the power to put you in dispair with the system and it leaves you in a state of hope, will he return or won't he?

I like my comedy with a edge.

Without doubt, my fave is "A Home of Your Own" (1964)
Although, "The Happiest Days Of Your Life" is probably a close second.

I do love the "On the Buses" films too.

Make Mine Mink
The Big Job

The list could go on and on. I couldn't settle for one.

"TWO WAY STRETCH" My all time favourite film ever. I must watch this movie at least twice a month. Always cheers me up watching Sellers trying to suppress his laughter. I have never seen a film that exude's the enjoyment and fun the cast are having.

Some great performances. Lionel Jeffries’ over the top Sour Crout. Irene Handl as the mother ashamed of her boy for not following in his father’s footsteps and managing to escape from prison. Thus bringing shame on the family.

I will stop there as I could go on and on……………………
