I watched Dead of Night for the zillionth time the other day. It does look as if Naunton Wayne is doing his own playing, getting quite a long putt in, though I don't think Basil Radford is seen doing his own shots.
There's a golf match involving John Le Mesurier in The Early Bird. |

More of Messrs Radford and Wayne - a key plot point in Night Train to Munich is that Charters has left his golf clubs with his chum Max in Berlin. It's when trying to phone him, that Charters overhears Paul Henreid revealing his suspicions of Rex Harrison. Sadly, he never does get the clubs back.
I remember a Francis Durbridge tv series in which it runs out that bullet wounds and golf ball wounds are nearly impossible to tell apart. Hmm... |

Yes, I do now remember the scene in Reach for the Sky, important for showing Douglas Bader's determination to succeed at everything.
I didn't expect any films following a golf match as a storyline. I thought there may be something where the main character is a golfer or caddy, or perhaps some story set around a golf club e.g. PG Wodehouse type comedy. By the way, golf isn't tedious to watch. Go to the Open Championship and experience the atmosphere e.g. Carnoustie 1999, now that would make a film! |

There aren't that many films of Wodehouse but at least one episode of Wodehouse Playhouse centres on a golf match.
