Kubrick's film The Killing was set at a racecourse, one of the gang (Tim Carey IIRC) had to shoot a horse during a race.

Just thought of two other racing sequences - there's quite a good one in Raggedy Rawney, Bob Hoskins's directorial debut ( not a very good film IMHO but I have a soft spot for it since it features many of the actors who were regulars with the NT company at the Cottesloe where I was a regular visitor for some years ).

The other occurs in the mini-series Noble House and has an hilrarious and obviously fake sequence reminiscent of the 'gay jockeys' sketches from the Harry Enfield show where two horses 'race' alongside each other. One of the latter is played by George Innes who sports a moustache, indicative of poor research since jockeys don't have facial hair due ( as I understand it ) to old fears of the Jockey Club about imposters riding horses in fixed races.

Yikes - Dead Cert is on my short list for worst British film ever. I'm not surprised it rarely shows up these days.

It is pretty bad. It's not surprising no more films have been made from Dick Francis novels, which is a shame.

It certainly didn't do much for Tony Richardson's career. There have been some TV movies since based on Mrs Francis's novels

Not British, but a sweet and suave racetack picture nontheless is "Le Gentleman D'Epsom" (AKA "Duke of the Derby" starring the excellent Jean Gabin.

Emily, I have a confession to make. I really am a horse doctor. But marry me, and I'll never look at another horse. :-)

A Day at the Races :-)

Never Back Losers with Jack Hedley. One of the Edgar Wallace series.
