Default Sherlock Holmes

I'm a sucker for any Sherlock Holmes film (even the one wiith Chuck Heston as SH!)

But one of my favourites is the Billy Wilder version with Robert Stephens and Colin Blakeley; sadly neither are with us any more.

I cannot deny that Jeremy Brett was archytypal Holmes; moody, easily bored, with an arrogance that some over-intelligent people have.

As I have never seen the film mentioned in these august columns, I assume that it was not a Brit film?

Have you seen, "The Young Sherlock Holmes"?

It is quite Hollywood where the money comes from and on some of its form, but quite British with cast. Made in 1985, includes: Nicholas Rowe, Alan Cox and a very young Sophie Ward. Nigel Stock plays Sophie's eccentric father. It's quite a fun little adventure. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised. Kudos to Spielberg and co on this one.
You must stay with it when the credits role - a very clever ending...

Cheers Gibbie,

Yes, I actually went to see this one on the flicks (sorry, cinema), and I really enjoyed it. Poor old Sherlock, his only love shot down in cold blood! He obviously never tried again to find a lady. Hmm! There must be a message there!

I will keep a look out for a repeat and only hope that it will be on the BBC so there are no b****y adverts! thumbs_u

Good morning boys.

What about the one with Michael Caine as a drunken actor who plays the detective for the real brains...Ben Kingsley's Watson?

I always thought that Sherlock wouldn't have stood such a twit as most portrayals of Watson have him. What, what?
