Default Brosnan: 'Bond is behind me'

Pierce Brosnan has said in an interview that he will not continue to play James Bond, after newspaper reports suggested he was being edged out of the role.
Brosnan said the role was "behind him" and criticised the series' producers. The comments appeared after stories in British newspapers at the weekend claiming those same producers had decided to dispense with Brosnan's services.

In an interview posted on the website of US magazine Entertainment Weekly, the actor remarked: "Bond is another lifetime behind me," and said "[We] went out on a high ... I look back affectionately at that time and doing those four movies."

Brosnan then spoke less affectionately of the Bond producers, saying that: "They don't know how to move on. A sense of paralysis has set in."

"That's it," the actor then commented. "I've said all I've got to say on the world of James Bond."

Brosnan's remarks come after Scotland's Sunday Mail claimed this weekend that the actor was to be "pensioned off" by producers keen to find a younger actor in order to develop a less gadget-heavy approach to Bond.

The story also suggested that Brosnan's financial demands were a contributory factor in the decision.

This is not, however, the first time that the end of Brosnan's run as 007 has apparently been nigh. In 2001, prior to filming Die Another Day, rumours the actor had left the series and would be replaced by Hugh Jackman were so rife that producers were forced to issue a formal denial. This time around, the X-Men star is not expected to be in line should Brosnan vacate the role. Franchise producers are said to favour the likes of Ewan McGregor, Jude Law or Clive Owen.

The next Bond film - currently still under the working title of Bond 21 - is scheduled for release in late 2005.

Well,if Pierce has finally hung up his Walther PPK,then for me it should either go to Clive Owen or Colin Salmon scarf . Jude Law and Ewen McGregor are too high a profiles.

Eric is the next James Bond?

Eric Bana is reportedly in talks to star as the next James Bond.

The Australian Incredible Hulk star, beat British actors Jude Law, Orlando Bloom and Ewan McGregor and fellow Aussie Heath Ledger to the coveted role.

According to the News Of The World producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson are said to be confident he'll be the star of the 21st Bond movie.

Thought to be titled The Man With The Red Tattoo, it sees 007 on a mission to save the world from a killer virus. Filming could start as early as September.

An insider said: "Eric is the guy they want but he has a reputation for being demanding. They want to modernise Bond and turn him into a youthful, suave and modern hero to compete with the likes of Spiderman and Keanu in The Matrix."

Brosnan, 50, announced he was quitting the role this week after starring in four Bond movies.

Our source said: "Rumour is he fell out with the producers after demanding more money."

Brosnan complained back in March that he hadn't been asked to play 007 in the 21st film.

He said: "They know where to find me if they want me. I'd love to do another bit. If not, I won't be out of work. The producers asked me back when we finished the last Bond film. I think now there is a sense of paralysis and they're not quite sure how to proceed. But I'll always be James Bond because that is a role you live with for life."

Melbourne-born Eric has also starred

Eric Bana is principally remembered in Australia as a comedian who used to have his own television show.

Although he has performed well in movies including "Black Hawk Down" & "The Castle" i cannot picture him as a serious 007.

We all remember what happened the last time an Aussie played Bond - George Lazenby.
That turned out to be a disaster!

Will he be allowed to keep his Aussie accent & drink Fosters instead of martinis?

First a Swede as England team manager & now a Aussie Bana-na as Bond. What is happening in the Old Dart?

Dave.

Rumors have been circling about Brosnan's continued participation in the series since February of this year when a story "leaked" to the press that MGM had privately fired Brosnan from the role. Generally regarded by most as a trial balloon by the studio to see what the public reaction would be to a change of actor in the Bond franchise, the public's reaction seemed to overwhelmingly support Brosnan. MGM has kept quiet since Brosnan's statements this week but representatives at EON Productions contacted by IGN FilmForce have told us privately that they weren't surprised by the comments in the press. "If the money and some other things are right, Pierce is back but he'll walk if those things don't come together. He's at a place [in his life] where he can do anything he wants and if he never makes another Bond film, he'll be just as happy as he would be if he starred in Bond 21."

Brosnan has been vocal about the quality of the scripts for the films since he took over the role. In an interview with our pals over at CHUD, Brosnan commented that the films were in a rut and that the first 1/3 of Die Another Day should have been the tone for the rest of the film. "...they [the producers] broke out of it too soon into the formulaic, safe side. They're too scared." Brosnan also dropped some clues in that interview that may indicate what he's looking for if he's going to sign a contract for Bond 21. "More of a character-driven piece.... Certainly more of a character-driven piece and what is going to happen next in the story because now we're just saturated – it's wonderful the spectacle they create. It's fantastic. But I love the last one and where it was going – until we got to Hong Kong and I was into the suit and into the old straitjacket of playing [Bond].""

Failing Clive Owen thumbs_u or Colin Salmon thumbs_u and if I can't get time off from work ,how about Mark Strong (The Long Firm)? He looks like a young Tom Adams, who played Charles Vine in the sixties. I believe Tom Adams was a contender for the role before Big Tam got the part thumbs_u .

Jackman: I Want Bond!
Source: FemaleFirst

Aussie fave Hugh Jackman is campaigning for the role of 007, if Internet sources are to be believed. Jackman revealed to FemaleFirst that he started rumours on the net that he was in negiotiations to star as Bond in the 21st movie in the series.

"There is something very secretive about the way they cast that role. I've never had an official call asking: 'Are you interested or not?'

"But there's no guy I know who wouldn't want that role - and that includes me. Anyone who says otherwise is lying."

Word around the camp-fire is that Colin Farrell is current favourite to bag the role after being backed by fellow Irishman and last Bond, Pierce Brosnan.

He was quoted at the Irish Film and Television Awards where he picked up a lifetime achievement award.

"But I'll give it to Colin Farrell. He'll eat the head off them all." he said this past weekend in Dublin.

Other names 'rumoured' are Jude Law, Colin Firth and the man i'm backing, Clive Owen.

I dunno who to go for really, but to add another to the list, what about Matthew Macfadyen - I think that's him - the blokey that was in "Spooks" on BBC TV. Not a mega star I know, but there's something about him...........regards, Decks.

I watched the end of the last Bond film on the TV the other night. Did anyone else notice that noise on the soundtrack like someone scraping the bottom of a barrel. If it is true and Brosnan has finaly hung up his Cyril 'hum yes' Cusack characterisation of James Bond perhaps a new direction can be taken. Instead of going down hill which it has been for a while go backwards. Why not start from the begining again. This time film the books in order and in the year they were written. With all the computer technique about how about getting the Bondmeister himself back, Sean Connery. If they can get rid of the hair on Catherine Zeta-Jones face, putting it back on Sean's head and airbrushing out a few rinkles should be a doddle. He's only poncing about in his Pringles on a golf course with the Michelin woman.

Jackman!?!? lovely bloke but a bit prissy for the role-Bond should never be approached like musical theater...o.k. bad joke. Seriously, I think Sean Bean could play a modern, feral, less refined Bond. And hey...for true brummie style how about VINNIE JONES!!!! Bond as hooligan nutter. Abandons Walther PPK in favor of HEADBUTT. Well...maybe not, then again I'M not busy for the next decade (really, really, bad joke).

Hi, Pierce Brosnan was on the Jonathan Woss show last night 5th November, he talked a little about being dropped from the Bond role, but quite discretely, seemed to put it down to the directors.
My daughter tells me that Robbie Williams is being considered for the role....dunno how true that is.
Personally I think Johnny Vegas would put a new slant to James Bond...lol )

Ok, ok if we're getting daft I think the Two Ronnies would be good - Ronnie Barker as Bond and Ronnie Corbett as Miss Moneypenny in drag! The code word between them could be" Four candles? no not four candles, Fork Handles!!"
Regards, Decks,

Pmsl...yes sounds good...especially if Miss Moneypenny wears a slinky tight fitting dress...lol.
However, can the suave sophistication of Johnny Vegas (as shown in The Sex Lives Of The Potato Men) ever be equalled p
I mean..put JV in a Tuxedo, wait for the sweet talking...and wow...the female population would become lemmings...could be a nice twist to Mr J. Bond ;o)
Lol...loved Johnny Vegas in SLOTPM really)

Isn't Robbie Williams' ego big enough without getting the Bond job. He maybe a good singer, but act scold .
Although I have on this site campaigned for Clive Owen and Colin Salmon before,it still wouldn't surprise me it will be a total unknown who will get the job.
Depsite what Sir Roger says,I don't think Ewen MacGregor would be suitable, nor Colin Farrel (his asking price could treble the budget). As suggested in one of yesterday's papers (I can't remember which one (Daily Mail,Daily Express or The Sun),the makers may go back to basics and deprive the story of a far fetched plot. With the success of The Bourne Identity clap and The Bourne Supremacy clap ,they may go for a more hardened Bond and a cloak and dagger approach.
Although I still think I should be considered for the role of Bond. As I am only 5'6,slightly overweight (though fit) and I only drink lager (vodka martini, yuk ),I would be ideal as a spy,as I would never go around the world flying in smart suits, entering every boozer in a tuxedo. However,I would inisist on Halle Berry being my Bond girl,Keira Knightly being Miss Moneypenny and Catherine Zeta Jones playing M. Carol Vorderman would be great as Q. Blimey,I would never get any work done
