Default BBC4 B-Movie Series

Have seen reference to a B-movie series that just finished its run on BBC4 with 'Marilyn' aka 'Roadhouse Girl'.

Anyone know what other films were featured?

Thanks

They were

The Last Journey from 1935
Lazybones from 1935
Psychomania from 1972
The Black Rider from 1954
Cover Girl Killer from 1959
Marilyn from 1953

Also, Matthew Sweet did give a very good documentary on british b-features. For me it would have been nice if they had documented each era in separate programmes and then showed a week's worth of b-films from each era.

But that would have meant at three weeks of heaven for the likes of you an me Joe ... and we can't have that! Perhaps the powers that be (geddit) will commission something else in a similar vein to what Joe suggests.

I just think it would have been nice for them to document a variety of different british b films from each era, considering the vast amount of b-films made and some cracking ones at that.

They could always re-show the documentary periodically, as they seem to repeat certain things on a fairly regular basis and then choose another 6 british b films.

Still, nonetheless, I did enjoy the documentary and re-watching the films especially Marilyn from 1953. Maxwell Reed was an extremely good looking actor, he had that brooding quality down to a tee.

The whole thing was rather disappointing.
Give me Channel4 circa 1988 any day.

Just as a 'final' thought - compare with the other documentaries in this series on courtroom dramas and the repeated war movies one this weekend - well written, well narrated with plenty of film clips and - most significantly - the writer/narrator didn't feel the need to put himself into the programme. I think this may be what rankles about Matthew Sweet - that he seems overkeen on becoming a 'television personality/celebrity' at the expense of the subject matter.

Circa 1988 on Channel Four was amazing and that's because Leslie Halliwell was working for them. I think the staff at the TV companies are too young now and can't relate to pre 1980 films.

Quite agree about Leslie Halliwell - a man who knew what he was talking about and had a genuine love of the cinema. Not to say I agreed with everything he said, but I had a lot of respect for him, and he always answered your letters too !

As I have mentioned on Britmovie before, this is something that worries an oldie like me also. As the older TV backroom boys who grew up in the black and white movie era fade away to be replaced by younger models, the chances of older classics being screened are likely to become rarer I fear.

I CANNOT believe that I missed the recent B movie season on BBC 4!!!

Did anyone tape/record the following films:

The Last Journey from 1935
Lazybones from 1935
The Black Rider from 1954
Cover Girl Killer from 1959
Marilyn from 1953

I would love to see them.
