SAMAPPLEPIE - You say you have this wonderfully evocative film on DVD. How do I get hold of a copy as I've searched for years and with no luck ?
If you can run a copy off for me I will gladly cover the costs.

I've come very late to this discussion, but I am yet another who has fond memories of this short film - not only did I see it on a bill with Twisted Nerve as the main feature, but also for many years owned the LP with the soundtrack of both films on it. Sadly, I no longer have it - a shame, because apart from anything else it's quite valuable nowadays, notably for the Gillan/Episode 6 involvement, which I must admit I'd forgotten about.

Here's another bit of trivia if anyone's interested: a version of the Reed-Mason song Julie was also recorded as the "A" side of a single by none other than troubled sixties DJ Simon Dee! You may not be surprised to hear that it wasn't a hit!

I've copied this from my post on film music...Popular musicians who have written film music.

A popular 30 minute film often discussed on here is Les Bicyclettes de Belsize.(1969)
One of the songs featured is 'Gentlemen of the Park' sung by the group Episode Six who comprised of among others Roger Glover (founder member) and Ian Gillan. In July 1969 they both became part of Deep Purple. Episode Six also contributed to the soundtrack of Twisted Nerve.

Later when Gillan formed the Ian Gillan Band he was joined by keyboard player
Colin Towns who was with him from 1976 to 1983 when Gillan went on to join Black Sabbath. Towns was then able to concentrate on tv and film, his many many compositions include Pie in the Sky; Cadfael; Capitol City; Doc Martin and many more.
I urge you to look at his website, it gives great details of the films and tv he has done and it has jogged my memory of some fine tv.

Interestingly the first keyboard player of the Ian Gillan Band was Mike Moran (75-76) who also went on to film and tv compositions such as New Tricks, Taggart and Time Bandits.

Very pleased to advise that LES BICYCLETTES DE BELSIZE will be available to view free of charge at the new BFI Mediatheque - opening March 2007. The film will form part of LONDON CALLING - a 100-title collection of films and television programmes about, and set in, London.

Maybe I'm a bit impatient, but it's now April 2007, and I can't find the film on their site yet, perhaps it's coming soon, or perhaps I didn't do a careful search... Eitherway, if anybody finds it, please post the direct link, or how you got to it!

The film is available to view in the Mediatheque at BFI Southbank. It is not available online as we do not have permission to stream films that are owned by other rights holders.

I went to see this at the Mediatheque and was a little disappointed. Mind you it wasn't helped by the uncomfortable seats.

I've only just spotted this (Hi Freddy!). It certainly is me on YouTube (and one or two other places) going by my other name, Pamfino (penfold will know what that name's about - and any other Buster Keaton fan!).

It's great to have a pristine copy of this lovely film now on DVD. Check out the comments under my YouTube clip - Anthony May, who played the boy in this delightful film, left a comment a wee while ago.
