The original Moulton cycle was a small wheeled machine designed by Alex Moulton but Moulton Cycles were bought by Raleigh in 1967, I think then most, if not all small wheeled cycles were built by Raleigh, so it was great product placement for the film, though interestingly while normal size bikes would have the maker's name on the frame in the film the bike doesn't have this. Perhaps they felt the design was so unique that was enough. Alex Moulton designed the rubber suspension for the Mini. An engineer and business man who went on in the eighties to design a new Alex Moulton cycle. As an aside are there only two British films with French titles, LBdB and Grand Prix? regards Freddy |

The Boy (Anthony May) is a cheerful but lonely photographer living in an attic flat in Hampstead Village. As day breaks, he leaves his flat via a somewhat unusual route (via the roof) on his Raleigh Moulton bicycle and makes his way through the picturesque cityscape, commenting (in song) about the busy people around him. On his way he (literally) runs into the Little Girl (aged about 8 and with pigtails and glasses) on her Raleigh tricycle and knocks her over. She immediately develops a crush on him and begins to follow him. During the ensuing chase, The Boy loses control of his cycle and crashes through a huge billboard (advertising Raleigh bicycles, of course) bearing the lovely face of The Girl, "Julie" (Judy Huxtable). He is smitten, to the obvious disgust of the Little Girl. Arriving at his shop, The Boy not only finds a large photo of Julie but then sees her through the window. They gaze at each other but Julie is whisked away in a limousine for a photo-shoot on Hampstead Heath. Later, The Boy is riding his bike on the Heath and sees Julie. This time she runs to him, leaving the photographers and make-up girls behind. The Little Girl is visibly upset that she has been rejected, but just then the (Raleigh bicycle-equipped) Little Boy, of a similar age to herself spots her and exclaiming "Cor!" sets off to try and catch her. Ah, a happy ending. Simon Beck London, UK |

I saw this for the first time yesterday - what a perfect little film. I thought at first it was going to be a piss-take of Parapluies - instead, it's a London take on it, a homage , a story told in a similar style. Fabulously evocative - I would have been the age of the young boy at the end.....and Judy Huxtable....mmmmm.....
Now a question; not in the cast list or in imdb; but the big elderly man at the bus stop - isn't that Danny Green from The Ladykillers??? |
