That is fair comment which I accept - and thanks for the added information.
The point that I was actually trying to make was that he wasn't 'dubbed' as such as some people are, sometimes for no obvious reason, he actually had to be given a voice because he no longer had one of his own.

Yes, a great tragedy that Hawkins lost his marvelous speaking voice to throat cancer though I guess it is a testament to his screen presence that he was able to carry on acting, albeit with his voice dubbed. Its been mentioned before on this site but Hawkins' illness is a grim example of the evils of smoking ,as that is accepted as the cause of his cancer.
