Great film ... I watched it a few weeks ago.

Re Tales Of Beatrix Potter ... yes, I am serious. It is British, features some of the finest music ever written and some exquisite dancing from some of the best ballet artistes of the period. A truly marvellous film.

If Tales of Hoffman and Red Shoes can be included why not TOBP?

Amazon.co.uk: Tales Of Beatrix Potter [1971]: The Royal Ballet: DVD

I can't find any clips from the film, but these are from the 2007 stage production ...

YouTube - Steven McRae as Squirrel Nutkin (Royal Ballet 2007)

YouTube - Gemma Sykes as Jemima Puddle-duck (Royal Ballet 2007)

YouTube - The Tale of Two Bad Mice (Royal Ballet 2007)

An American movie - an American musical. But wonderful it is. Already.

Brigadoon is my dad-in-law's fave too - we just got it for Fathers' Day from Amazon for something ridiculous like £2.99!

Fiddler on the Roof was filmed at Pinewood, with several British cast members....

Does that make it British?

American director, Israeli star. Broadway musical adaptation - set in Russia.

Superman was shot at Shepperton - doesn't make it a British movie.

I do admit the boundries are blurry here - but I personally wouldn't count Fiddler.

My Fair Lady has a better claim to quasi-Britishness because the subject and all the stars are British.

Boundaries are often blurry when it comes to defining a country of origin for a film

It's often been discussed here and it depends on what rules you use for determining the country (or countries) of origin.

If it was made in this country, to me, it is British.

Is ANOTHER MAN'S POISON American because it had two American stars and director or EDWARD MY SON, similarly?

Answer my question first: Was Superman a British movie because it was made in Shepperton?

Is Robin and Marion Spanish?

I think there has to be some connection between the subject matter and the majority of the talent.

Exactly what that correlation is I don't pretend to know...

Yes - Kelly wanted to film in Scotland, but MGM was in a cost-cutting mood.

What an opportunity lost!

Chaplin wrote, starred in, edited and scored most of his films. He self financed a lot of them including The Great Dictator. Will anyone claim that any of his films before "A King In New York" were British?

I think Limelight is about the only one...

But it was an American financed studio picture. At least the subject was British.

Hard Days Night, Oliver.

The worst contenders are "Mrs Brown You Have Got A lovely datughter" and Billy Fury in "I.ve Got A Horse.

I have a soft spot for the JC Superstar film, although Melvyn Braggs screenplay was extremelt silly,

For those who have it on Dvd beware of Norman Jewsion commentary with Ted Neely you will need a sic bucket by your side.
