Evening
The film was based on Lord Mountbatten and HMS Kelly but if you look at this site you will see that it seems that HMS Torrin was the actual ship used in the film

Thanks DB7, So did I but looking at this site it seems it was an actual warship and as the film was made in 1942 could it have been? I suppose it depends on what scenes were actually filmed on the ship. Didn't Sir John Mills in an interview mention that somebody nearly drowned in the wave tank they had made in the studio when the ship was torpedoed.

Hello All

Thank for your efforts, but I am sure that H.M.S.Torrin was fictional though the whole thing was based on H.M.S. Kelly and Lord Mountbatten, my father told me that he was serving in the ship that was used as H.M.S.Torrin but I cannot recall the name of the ship.

Thanks to all

REGARDS

ISTR an interview where Noel Coward described how they spent quite a few days in that tank, complete with oil slick. One day, as Noel jumped in, he commented that it was a damned silly way to make a living.

I expect most of the close-ups on board were in the studio but there were probably a few exterior shots of a destroyer. Although I can't find any references as to which one(s) they filmed.

The ship used in the film "In Which We Serve" Was HMS Bicester a Hunt/Destroyer Class 2 This ship was launched in 1941 and was decommissioned in 1956 The film was based on HMS Kelly and in the film was called HMS Torrin.
Hope that clears that up, shipmates size=7][b]
