Default Your choice for Prime Minister?

Now for a bit of idle day dreaming…who would you, dear forum readers, have as your Prime Minister (of the UK) from the wealth of British film characters we’ve enjoyed? My own choice would be Kenneth More’s ‘Lightoller’ from the 1950s classic Titanic film A Night to Remember – I’m sure, with his calm courage and insight he could steer Britain through the most difficult of waters. (I have to admit, our present incumbent, Rev Blair, reminds me of a cross between Hugh Grant and [the real] Prince Charles)

Orson Welles from Three Cases of Murder, a politician haunted by nightmares.

Oh, hang on...

Robert Donat or Michael Redgrave for me. thumbs_u

If I were looking for actors to play the PM and his deputy then Hugh Grant and Ray Winstone fit the bill. :)

I quite fancy George Sanders character from "The Village of the Damned", strong willed , intelligent, cool under pressure and persuasive. Having said that George Cole's character from "St Trinians" would be more likely in today's society! Regards, Decks.

Alastair Sim's "Miss Fritton" had just the right amount of control over her charges. And, like most politicians, she was out for whatever she could get out of it :)

Yes Roger Livesey. How could you fail to trust anyone with a voice like that? Especially as he was as Torquil in I Know Where I'm Going.
But then again he was also the fake vicar in The League of Gentlemen.

Bernard Lee for me. Sergeant Paine "THE THIRD MAN" 1949, Lt.Col. Huxley "DANGER WITHIN" 1959, Charles Foreman "DUNKIRK" 1958 and as M in the first eleven Bond films. Strong, Calm, Dependable, Trustworthy and most of the time out of his face.

How about Ronald Colman?

He was a politician in Random Harvest and if we had to go to war he could revert to Prisoner of Zenda mode.

Appropriately he played an MP in 'The Masquerader' (1933). wink

I gave some thought to James Mason who at first seems ideal. Then as Sir George Wheeler in Huston's "MACKINTOSH MAN" 1973, General Count Von Klugermann in "THE BLUE MAX" 1966, Rupert of Hentzeu in "THE PRISONER OF ZENDA" 1952 and Captain Nemo in "20000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA" 1954 his politics do seem a tad flaky. Then again if you add the morality of Humbert Humbert in "LOLITA" 1962 he comes floating right back to the top.
