Now, with the advent of DVD and crystal clear pause, I thought I'd put up a post to encourage all you avid fans to send in your funny, surprising, cheap FX - well ANYTHING really, that you've only just noticed or weren't really meant to see. eek!

When they showed
The Tales of Hoffmann (1951) at the ICA they had the wick turned up a bit too high. At the end of the Coppelius sequence, the dancing doll Olympia (Moira Shearer) is broken up by an angry Coppelius. As her arms, legs & head are pulled off and broken you see her torso & one leg still dancing.
But as the brightness was turned up too much you could quite clearly see Moira with a black body stocking over her "missing" head, arms and the one leg as she shook the "visible" leg.
The same trick works on videos of the film - but it's much better to watch it at the correct brightness level.
