Five fingers, with James Mason and Michael Rennie. Utterly superb, taught atmospheric spy thriller, Mason was perfect in the role, filming at the actual locations added to the authenticity and made it even more enjoyable. The ending was a surprise and quite perfect.

Rag Trade (Series One).
I was looking forward to catching up with this television "classic" from the sixties but found it more silly than entertaining. It was fun seeing the likes of Reg Varney, Peter Jones, Miriam Karlin, Barbara Windsor, Sheila Hancock, Esma Cannon, Ann Beach and Judy Carne (whatever happened to her?) in the early days of their television careers. The good laughs though were few and far between in what were, looking back now, rather poor scripts. Dave. |

MY LOVER,MY SON 1970
Dennis Waterman( very young with a very posh accent) gets confused about family life with mother Romy Scheider ,subject matter aside this is a well made thriller/study of madness Excellent supporting cast includes Donald Houston,Peter Sallis and a very good Patricia Brake in a non-comedic role. Enjoyable |

Last night I watched Say Hello To Yesterday from 1971 starring Jean Simmons, Leonard Whiting and Evelyn Laye. Very enjoyable film and very good perormances from the 3 main leads. Good use of London locations and an extremely catchy theme tune from Riz Ortolani. Incidentally, the theme song at the end of the film is sung by Mark Wynter.

The Sailor from Gibraltar 1967
Ian Bannen has a midlife crisis and leaves girlfriend Vannesa Redgrave on holiday for a boat trip with a loopy Jeanne Moreau who is searching for a mythical or not Sailor from........... Too prententious for a simpleton like me, there is hidden meaning about lonliness in the sub text but I got lost after a strange musical interlude by Miss Moreau, and a trip to Africa Interstellar involvement including Orson Welles and Tony Richardsons direction cant save it for me. It probably has profound meaning somewhere in it, but It went right over me and left me thoroughly bored! Last edited by A Pemberton; 27-01-2008 at 06:18 PM. |
