Evenin' all! Anyone like "The Huggets"? One of my extremely thoughtful offspring gave me the box set for Christmas......watched "Holiday Camp" last night, loved it , haven't seen it for years. Don't really want to get involved with the arguement about whether these films are politically correct or not (which I seem to read about a lot these days,eh?)because I really don't care....I just loved the moment in time it captured, mmmm don't you just wonder sometimes if it would better better or worse to live like that?Ta ta for now, Decks.

I was doing a bit of late night channel hopping and came across a programme called (I think) The Comedy Review. It was absolutely dreadful! I arrived halfway through a spoof game show called 'Mr and F-----g Mrs' which consisted of some bloke pretending (?) to be an American asking risque questions and using the word 'f--k' in every sentence. Not an ounce of wit was on display .... I sat stunned watching this rubbish for a few minutes thinking 'it can't get any worse' when the odious Russell Brand appeared. I turned to BBC4 and watched The Late Edition with Marcus Brigstocke for a while. What a contrast! It was intelligent, witty and genuinely funny ..... without a 'f--k' to be heard.

Bats.

If you're looking for something worth watching, check The Culture Show on BBC2 on Saturday evenings at 7pm, repeated on Sunday morning at around 2:30 - 3:00. Hosted by Lauren Laverene who I know can put some people off. But it's a good show with a good round-up of various arts and culture events. Film reviews and interviews with film people are by Mark Kermode. "Art" reviews are by Andrew Graham-Dixon

Cheers Steve. I have caught the occasional programme in the wee small hours and, I agree, it is a good series.

Part 3 of City of Vice. This series gets better every week. Excellent in all departments. Highly recommended.

A hat-trick of posts from me .... sorry.

We have just finished watching Emilio Estevez' film Bobby which is set in the Ambassador Hotel on the day Bobby Kennedy was shot. It is an Altman style multi character piece which features great performances from an all star cast. We found it enthralling. Recommended viewing from The Bat Cave.

Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd.

A highly entertaining barnstorming musical with a great penny-dreadful atmosphere.

Johnny Depp was excellent, but I thought the standout performance was from Helena Bonham Carter as his lovelorn, pie-making mistress.

Last night I watched The Franchise Affair from 1951 based on the novel by Josephine Tey and starring Dulcie Gray, Michael Denison, Marjorie Fielding, Anthony Nicholls, Athene Seyler, John Bailey, Kenneth More, Ann Stephens, Avice Landon, Hy Hazell, Peter Jones and Martin Boddey and a young Patrick Troughton.

A very good mystery drama with touches of humour as well. I enjoyed Marjorie Fielding's performance very much.

Oh but I LOVE Ian Bannen. When I was a schoolgirl of about 12 I sent him a fan letter to which he replied at length- with an occasional spelling mistake I may add! When he played Dr Cameron there was one episode in which he says he is still attractive to the ladies. YESSSS! I cried! What a CUTIE and what a sad loss.

Default The Good Companions 1930

I watched this last night. It was completely spoiled for me by ....Jessie Matthews. I have often heard that men who saw her on stage in the 30s and 40s found her very sexy and she may have been so in the flesh, but on film I found her repulsive. Pinhead, MASSIVE wobbly thighs (we see far too much of them in her dinky doo rehearsal costume) and a face just like a goldfish!

Default Eye of the Devil 1966

Eye of the Devil 1966

Wicker Man-esque (?) film sees David Niven become the thirteenth apostle(?) to save the seasons vine crop with an ultimate sacrifice.Very strange film, everyone seems in a trance staring into the distance and talking in rhymes.David Hemmings is unitentionally hilarious as I think, a eros type philosopher (I know, this doesnt make any sense, does it ) ,only Deborah Kerr is the sane one and she sets about rectifying the strange traditions of the vineyard.
The cast is,well, check it on IMDB, its amazing, but its not a good film.

It one of those things which has to seen to be believed.
