For the stage production? Buchanan died in 1957 so it must have been one of his last professional engagements.

Yes indeed- for the stage production. They also appeared together doing a routine at the Royal Variety Performance.

I remember JB's death. The first death that measnt anything to me- I was 7. I still haven't got over it!

Last night I watched an episode from Gideon's Way entitled To Catch A Tiger from 1965, aside from the general cast of John Gregson, Alexander Davion and Daphne Anderson. This episode features an excellent support cast which includes, Vanda Godsell, Walter Brown, Norman Bird, Raymond Huntley, Meredith Edwards, Glyn Houston, Erica Rogers and the lovely Delphi Lawrence.

The Jigsaw Man on ITV 4.

Oh dear, a bit of a mess this one as a podgy Michael Caine tries to play the KGB and MI6 off against each other, a remarkably spry Larry Olivier shouts a lot, Robert Powell and Susan George have very little to do and it all ends with Charles Gray shooting at baboons in Windsor Safari Park.

And there's a Dionne Warwick song too!

Directed (if that's the word) by Terence Young who ended up doing some very peculiar films.

Last night I watched another episode of Gideon's Way, this time the Episode was entitled The Housekeeper. The guest star in this episode was Kay Walsh. Also, Harry Fowler and Oliver Johnston. Kay Walsh gives an excellent performance.

Gideons's Way really does maintain its quality through the box set. John Gregson's early death was a great loss.

This could have been so good, but ultimately a mess. Some good shots of Strand on the Green.

The Lost Continent (1968) DVD-R. Tremendous fun from Hammer with Captain Eric Porter in charge of a barely seaworthy ship filled with dubious cargo and even more dubious passengers. It’s all here flesh eating plant life, giant rubber Scorpions and Crabs doing battle, and some 15th Century Spaniards thrown in for good measure.

I suppose it's more exciting than the film about the little old lady who disappears - The Lost Incontinent?

Climbing High which has Michael Redgrave teamed up with Basil Radford as sports car-driving playboy types and Jessie Matthews as a supermodel. Plus Francis L Sullivan as a criminally insane opera singer and Alastair Sim as an embittered Communist in a leopardskin loincloth. Truly they don't make 'em like that any more.

The continuity isn't very hot on that one. Caine lost weight during a hiatus in filming when money ran out and you can see his weight fluctuating noticably between shots. I agree with you about Olivier - mid 70s and in very poor health - looking quite robust for the time. It must have been his last full-length film role.

Young's wife wrote the original novel and that explains his involvement though it was his second film with Olivier and the first, though I haven't seen it, is just as bizarre - Inchon.

Young didn't really have any high points after the three Bonds except for Wait Until Dark.

Thats the joke that killed the Music Hall !
