Strictly Sinatra - a peculiar Scottish thriller with comedic elements that sees a curiously cast Ian Hart as a Sinatra tribute act who becomes embroiled with gangsters led by Brian Cox.

A not too successful meshing of genres although Cox and the always impressive Kelly MacDonald are splendid.

another Yank film, although it was a remake of a British film. Village of the Damned, not a bad film, but inferior to the original. It must have been one of Christopher Reeve's last films before he had his accident, poor chap.

Stardust - a fairly interesting fairy tale originally from the pen of Neil Gaiman.

It looks splendid, has a very impressive cast (mostly British but Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert de Niro are in there too) and a nice pair of leading performances from Charlie Cox and Claire Danes (who has an impeccable British accent despite being American).

The likes of Rupert Everett, Mark Strong and the great Peter O'Toole are also involved and for the Ricky Gervais haters amongst the forum (and there are many!) he has three tiny scenes and meets a very sticky end!

It did make me laugh that one character promised to bring Sienna Miller a ring "all the way from Ipswich"

I took some tablets, made a strong cup of tea and settled down to watch the remake of Get Carter on C5 last night.

I can honestly say it wasn't as bad as I feared, but then it wasn't much good either! I'm afraid rainy Seattle is no substitute for the grimly atmospheric early 70s Newcastle.

I'm not averse to remakes of classics and making changes but the alterations here just make the plot weaker.

Stallone's Jack Carter is a more sentimental and soft-hearted villain, Michael Caine and Miranda Richardson turn up to little effect and the only actor who comes out of proceedings at all well is Mickey Rourke (in Ian Hendry's role).

Just about watchable, but nothing more.

I have fond memories of the Original ,so how does Michael Caine and Miranda Richardson fair in this I ask and what role does Miranda Richardson play in this ,not the Britt role ?

Unsurprisingly, I watched Those Glory, Glory Days - the first time for some considerable time that I've actually watched something "live" [I'm usually outvoted] that didn't star Jenny. It brought back great memories.

All the best

Miranda Richardson plays Carter's sister-in-law. She doesn't have much to do other than constantly cajole Stallone to leave things be and get out of town. Her daughter/Carter's niece has a much bigger role in this though.

Michael Caine plays Brumby (Bryan Mosley in the original). The part has changed and expanded quite a bit here although Stallone still gets to say the classic "You're a big man..." line to Caine.

Which if like the Original then Caine must get topped by Stallone (over the car park ? but has it is a US movie it is probably something else instead ? ) or did they change that ?

I wished I watched this now,I did not before because as I said I hold the Original very highly as many do.

Callan Series 4:The Richmond Chronicles. The final trilogy of stories for our hero (excluding Wet Job) finishes off the series in fine style. Superb writing and acting (especially from Edward Woodward, Anthony Valentine and TP McKenna) make this one of the TV greats. Magnificent stuff!

Don't miss out on a chance to win a rare film in Bat-Quiz 13 closing date - 31/8/8.

If you haven't seen this series before you won't be disappointed. As a bonus, there are two scenes between Callan and Meres which had me in stitches. Great acting from the pair of them.

Default Expose

EXPOSE 1975

First viewing for me of an infamous "video nasty" Expose, edited version or not I dont know.
An author tries to write his second book and is heavily distracted by Fiona Richmond and Lynda Hayden
Praise, if any is due goes to Miss Hayden for an average attempt at acting the murdering temptress, the rest is a shambles
Udo Keir as the author is monumentally wooden and Fiona Richmond just awful(wooden would be a compliment)
The much vaunted porn/ violence is badly edited and badly done and altogether makes a film not worthy of its notoriety.

If the censor would have said bloody awful rather than bloody and violent I could have agreed with him.

The version I had recorded had a 12 certificate and was shown at 9am on tv,
how times have changed.....................................

There is a character who falls to their death but it isn't Caine.
