Watched last Friday (26th) but have only just had time to catch up with my messages.

I Know Where I'm Going! (1945) at the NFT with a special guest, Margot Fitzsimons who played "Bridie", one of the young lovers in the film.

JamesM organised her trip over here, for which I thank him, and we've been having a lot of fun taking her around to various places and chatting to her about her time in the film.

And we have just watched it again (yesterday) whilst recording an audio commentary for the film with Margot and assistant editor Jim Pople with Steve Crook stepping into the breach to act as moderator and provider of additional information, for which I am, grateful.

A Cold War double bill of the Beeb's The War Game and Threads. Both sobering depictions of the threat and futility of nuclear war with their own poignant moments; the children in The War Game and the Standard Life advertising hoarding in Threads.

The Main in Black.

Small Hammer thriller narrated by Valentine Dyall and starring Sid James. Well handled but a predictable and inconsequential story.

Peter Watkins The Diary of an Unknown Soldier

Minimalist anti-war story of a soldiers fears on the Western Front during WWI. Shot using just a handful of actors, the 17 minute amateur film relies on the strength of the unknown protagonists voice over and a mixture of wartime music and realistic sound effects.

They Made Me A Fugitive

Recorded from "Bad Movies" starring Trevor Howard dated 1947.

Excellent film, a kind of English version of I Was A Fugitive From A Chain Gang and not dissimilar to Brighton Rock. Great camera work and cast, many of our old favourites but a bit younger. Well worth seeing, a gem.

"Kind Hearts And Corenets." Superb film and I reckon the best film Ealing ever made. It's just such a shame that Dennis Price's career went downhill and in his latter years he ended up appearing in crap. Everyone always focuses on Alex Guiness but I reckon it's actually Dennis that steals the show. The best performance he ever gave. The subtles of that film would be totally lost of course on todays generation who would probably be too busy texting each other about bugger all...

Time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man...

So, They Made Me A Fugitive (a wonderful movie which is often seen today as being a classic) is shown on a channel called "Bad Movies"? They'll be showing Citizen Kaine next!

Watched Sitting Target with Oliver Reed and Ian McShane as the two prisoners and also the late Mike Pratt as the warder. Made in 1972 it did have a touch of "The Sweeney" about it, in language, location, fights and car chases though the Sweeney began three years later.
Oliver Reed is the seething cauldron of anger, sometimes speaking like Bill Sykes, there is a line where he says 'fancy' and I swear I thought he said Nancy. He is the gentleman with all the ladies he comes into contact with apart from his wife played by Jill St. John. McShane plays the creep and Edward Woodward plays the cop. It does now seem a bit dated, but good all the same and watching Ollie is always a joy.
The film is directed by Douglas Hickox who before this had directed the lovely Les Bicyclettes de Belsize(1969) a totally different project.

Boy texts girl, boy falls for girl , boy meets girl, fly in the ointment, all's well that ends well

Watched several times before and always enjoyed it - my mum was a wraf operator during WW2 but I don't think she ever had quite such a call!

Certainly would be in my Desert Island DVD list.
