It seems that the Edgar Wallace Mystery films are fondly remembered by so many people on Britmovie.

I have just killed an hour watching Strangler's Web (see above) which I thoroughly enjoyed. Good performances from John Stratton and ol' 'Narcy' himself Griffith Jones. One of the better in the Edgar Wallace series and directed by our own Mr John Llewellyn Moxey!

To me that's time well spent Bats, not killed...

In fact, I'd call that highly effective time management!

Finally after years of promising myself I would get round to I saw Trent's Last Case. Never expected it to be anything remarkable and it's very very pedestrian. Old Wilcox had no idea about suspense. Miles Malleson puts in a decent turn as does Welles (with an in joke) and Kenneth Williams turns up briefly as the gardner. Could have been better.

The Intimate Stranger (1956) DVD-R. Decent drama directed by Joseph Losey, although his name does not appear on my US version titled Finger of Guilt. Always excellent Richard Basehart plays a man pestered by letters from a woman he claims never to have met, good support from Roger Livesey as his father-in-law, and a host of familiar faces including Mervyn Johns. I can't say the denouement was surprising, but an enjoyable watch all the same. Set in a film studio which allows for some views of Merton Park studios.

As there's a fault on some of the DVDs I watched DR. WHO - The Invasion of Time, to check the disc. In the end Mrs. Smudge and I ended up watching the whole 6-parter in a single sitting. Great fun.

Louise Jameson was stunning as Leela but, IMO, she's gorgeous nowadays and a really nice person to boot...

Last night I watched the following first up was The Man at The Carlton Tower from 1961 an Edgar Wallace mystery film released by Anglo Amalgamated. Starring Maxine Audley, Lee Montague, Allan Cuthbertson, Nyree Dawn Porter, Alfred Burke, Nigel Green, Terence Alexander, Geoffrey Lumsden and Frank Forsyth.

Nigel Green plays Lew Daney a jewel thief wanted for the murder of a policeman. On the case is Supt Cowley played by Allan Cuthbertson, however, he needs the assistance of ex police chief Tim Jordan played by Lee Montague, who knew Lew Daney when he was based in Rhodesia. A highly enjoyable film with very good performances.

Following on was Dateline Diamonds from 1965 starring Conrad Phillips, Kenneth Cope, William Lucas, George Mikell, Vanda Godsell, Anna Carteret, Patsy Rowlands, Burnell Tucker, Noel Luscombe and Gertan Klauber.

An ex-con Lester Benson played by Kenneth Cope who now manages a top pop band in the UK (The Small Faces) is blackmailed into smuggling stolen gems by ex army officer Major Fairclough played by William Lucas. The gems are to be smuggled abroad via the Radio London ship. Inspector Tom Jenkins played by Conrad Phillips and his assistant from Holland Paul Verlekt played by George Mikell are investigating the case.

The legendary pop pirate ship/station Radio London is featured heavily with DJ Kenny Everett, also the Managing Director of Radio London, Philip Birch is featured. The Small Faces sing I Got Mine and It's Too Late. The Chantelles sing I Think of You and Please Don't Kiss Me. Kiki Dee sings Small Town. Other pop acts are Rey Anton & The Pro-Forma and Mark Richardson.

A real piece of 60's nostalgia. A really enjoyable film.

I watched 3 Edgar Wallace Mysteries: Who Was Maddox, Act of Murder and Dead Man's Chest, all not bad but the last two didn't have the normal smokey opening and Man of Mystery music. Anyone know why?
