The film biography of London crime figure Charles Richardson!

Luke Goss not bad in the title role but he doesn't capture Richardson's

menace or his wicked humour as evidenced in his Autobiography "My Manor"!

Jack Rosenthal's The Knowledge. Haven't seen it for decades and found a good VHS copy on ebay.

I was a run caller for my uncle when he did the knowledge in the early 70s, so I recognised most of the runs. You never forget the first; Manor House tube to Gibson Square.

I so enjoyed watching it again and made me despair yet again at the demise of the quality single drama on television - Poliakoff excepted.

Does anyone know if Kim Taylforth is related to Gillian Taylforth? The accents and tone of voice are very similar.

watched 'life is beautiful' italian film set during the 2nd worldwar, what a great film!!,the scene where he translates for the germans(allthough he can't speak a word of german) just brilliant. well worth watching

Dual Alibi (1947) DVD+R. Most enjoyable it was too. Especially fine performance[s] by Herbert Lom, and the "twin" effects were particularly well executed.

"The Mudlark" (1950) Interesting film with Alec Guinness as Disraeli, and particularly a fine performance from young Andrew Ray. According to IMDB, that was his first film - if that's correct, he was astonishingly assured. The film could have done without the rather soppy love sub-plot, but Finlay Currie as Brown kept things alive. Also a quick plaudit for Edward Rigby in a fairly minor role, what a good actor he was!

I subjected Mrs Bat to the excellent Daughter of Darkness with Siobhan McKenna, Barry Morse and Honor Blackman. Directed by the under-rated Lance Comfort this is a fine melodrama in which McKenna causes mayhem in a small farming comunity. Highly recommended .... and Max is in it too!

After .... a couple of episodes of the wonderful Spy Smasher. Mrs Bat didn't hang around for these.

I thought the "soppy love sub-plot" was quite funny. To see how many different ways she could be stood up as the weather got worse each time she waited for him

Last night I watched I Start Counting from 1969 starring Jenny Agutter, Bryan Marshall, Clare Sutcliffe, Lana Morris, Madge Ryan, Simon Ward, Gregory Phillips, Fay Compton, Billy Russell, Charles Lloyd Pack and Lewis Fiander. An extremely well made psychological drama film with some fine performances.

Meetings with Remarkable Men by Peter Brook. Interesting film about searching for the meaning of life. Based on memoirs of Russian mystic Georgi Gurdjieff, it concerns on Gudjieff's early years, his quest to find a forgotten brotherhood and ends in a monastery in Himalayas, where Gurdjieff "found himself" and developed a teaching of acquiring inner peace via dance.
My compain is just that it doesn't say much about Gudjieff himself and his teachings and at times the film seems to be racing ahead to quickly, some parts are felt to be skipped. Overall, it's a nice film with great music, locations (it was shot in Afghanistan) and costumes (it seemed funny to me that these costumes felt like being left over from shooting of Life of Brian, which was made in the same year).

I saw this for the first time a few weeks ago thanks to a forum member,and it is indeed an excellent drama
