Having just had the DVDs returned to me after an absence of nearly a year, I'm re-watching "The Omega Factor" - a 10-part BBC TV series from 1979.

Lord Brett - when you say 'home-made' walnut loaf, do you mean that you actually made it yourself? (Be truthful now!)

Starry x.

We were going to watch London Town but decided to watch Cardboard Cavalier instead. Sid Field is very funny in this film which is highly enjoyable. Good production values too, the 17th century costumes and settings are excellent.

The Informers (1963) DVD-R. Interesting crime film that has a feeling of Inspector Gideon meets Jack Regan about it, the plot could easily have come from a 70’s episode of The Sweeney (I bet the creators of that saw this film). As usual there is an excellent performance from Nigel Patrick in the lead role as a detective on the trail of Derren Nesbitt’s gang and a great cast with Harry Andrews, Colin Blakeley, Roy Kinnear and Frank Finlay all on fine form.

All my own work, I'm afraid! I also made Alsation Red Cabbage (basically the same as normal red cabbage receies, only with prunes added).

I saw that at Pictureville Cinema, Bradford a while back. Really good documentary - I've got to wonder, as a vegetarian, if I was a massive Scott fan would I still want to buy the album where percussion is provided by a bloke punching a side of beef.

Only heard Scott 4 recently - absolute genius. What's the album after that like?

TBH I've never heard the 70s albums, but they are largely just covers. Scott 1-4 are all brilliant and although 4 was the least successful it is the best. Night of Hunter and Tilt are great once you get into them (admittedly a difficult thing to do), but they're not for everybody and I think The Drift (even including the meat punching) is a little easier and better.

And I don't buy into all these muso-snobs who write-off the Walker Brothers stuff - there's lots of great songs there and Scott's early Jaque Brel stuff I think is brilliant. I particularly love 'Amsterdam' and 'My Death'.

The Walker Bros are fab! I have a two tape compilation which is a permanent feature in my car (Mrs Bat has the posh car with the CD player in it). Scott's solo stuff is hard work at times but 'Tilt' is a great album, challenging, but well worth it. I haven't heard 'The Drift' yet, but the Ginger Gooner is gonna do me a copy sometime.

I missed the film ... is it going to be on again?

Excalibur 1981

Hadn't seen it for a good few years but it was just as enjoyable as I remembered thanks to a cracking script and the barmy Nicol Williamson...

Nicole Williamson's Merlin is the best ever and the best thing in a very good film.

Bowie was obviously a big Scott fan (he's the Executive Producer of 30th Century Man) as he cevered both of the above songs. His version of Amsterdam is absolutely thrilling.
