Agreed. An exciting film about a difficult subject. Very well written and performed.

Death Rides a Horse (1967). Not a British film at all, but an Italian western starring Lee Van Cleef and John Phillip Law. What makes it of interest here is the unexpected appearence of Anthony Dawson, dubbed by another English actor, as one of the baddies. To complete the strangeness of his role he has four aces tatooed onto his chest.

One of my favourite Italian westerns .... and one of Lee Van Cleef's finest performances. Highly recommended.

I love the way he tells Mario Braga that he's got the meanest face he ever saw. From Lee Van Cleef that's a real insult!

I was intending to watch some old Z Cars but watched the original version of The Cat People instead. Not British but a great film, with the 'horror' suggested, not laid on with a trowel. Infinitely superior to the McDowell/Kinski remake with the added bonus of an appearance from my old mate Tom Conway. Curse of the Cat People is pencilled in for the weekend.

The Heart of the Matter (1953) R.2 DVD. Graham Greene story which features a fine performance by Trevor Howard as a senior police officer based in Sierra Leone during WW2, tormented by demons both personal and professional.

Miss Robin Hood - a lovely diversion with Margaret Rutherford and Richard Hearne.

And Sid James in his most unlikely role as a knitting fanatic!

The Dark Man
Despite no doubt being a favourite of Bats I'd have to say it was something of a letdown. As soon as a love interest was contrively introduced, and a women being hunted by a murderer was sent home without protection you realise all the real cops must be investigating a gritty crime with Stanley Baker, and the office staff are left to chase Maxwell Reed. Maybe their might yet be a tense, suspenseful ending? No, they just run along the beach shooting at one another.

Nice locations.

It's my favourite Max film but I have to agree it's not a 'classic' by any means. The plotting is absurd at times, but it has some effective scenes and I think the ending is rather exciting. Max is pretty good as the villain and his first appearance is a treat. This is a film you either like or don't like. I like it!

Default Lair of the White Worm 1988

LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM 1988

Ken Russells phallic and religious imagery in a modern gothic tale gone wrong, not even saved by Amanda Donohoe camping it up,
"The Devils" and the early films were so much better.......
