yes he looks like having fun until David Tomlinson despatches him, casting is quite interesting here to say the least,John Le Mesurier is a Russian ,Tomlison an assassin
Jill st John a ruthless agent,Eric Sykes and Derek Nimmo play it very straight and the rest of the cast play it for laughs. |

The Long Ships is wonderfully campy stuff ... I especially remember the bit where that guard is asked to ''ride the mare of steel''.

I watched some extras from the Prisoner Box set including an american documentary. Whet my appetite to re run the whole series. I followed up with Tommy Lee Jones directorial debut, the 3 Funerals of , obviously not a Brit Flic but absolutely superb, highly recommended.

Last night I watched a real oddball- Car of Dreams (1935) a musical comedy with John Mills, Robertson Hare and (what can only be described as) a quaint little German actress called Grete Mosheim. John Mills made a gallant attempt at singing a couple of numbers. Dancing was beyond him so he marches about instead as he sings. In one scene he does a couple of dance steps but the camera mercifully does not show his feet! I have to say I enjoyed it, but it was a real oddity. It seemed to be more an attempt to rival the American screwball comedy than a musical in the true British mould.
